David Carradine is laid to rest



(People) Tom Selleck, Jane Seymour, Lucy Liu and hundreds of other friends and family members turned out to say goodbye to David Carradine in Los Angeles Saturday evening.

Held in a chapel on the grounds of Forest Lawn Cemetery, the star's funeral drew mourners in all manner of dress, including kilts, Native American headdresses, leather fringe jackets, sandals and multi-colored cowboy boots. Even a group of Hell's Angels was there to bid farewell to Carradine, who was found dead in his hotel room in Bangkok on June 4.

"It was touching, but light-hearted," said Carradine's older brother Bruce. "There weren't a lot of tears, but there was a lot of laughter."

A white hearse containing Carradine's casket arrived at the cemetery around 3 p.m., accompanied by an escort of Hell's Angels on motorcycles. The service started about two hours later after an estimated 400 people filed into a chapel on the grounds of the 400-acre cemetery to mourn the star, who was best known for his leading role of Kwai Chang Caine on TV's Kung Fu.

Over the next two hours, Carradine's brothers, children and friends – including his Kill Bill costar Michael Madsen and pal Stacy Keach, who starred in The Long Riders with Carradine – stood and shared memories of the actor with the crowd. A photo montage of the 72-year-old star's life was projected on a big screen and two of his children performed on the piano and harp.

"Michael shared a list of rules to live by that David had given him years ago," says Bruce. "These included advice like, 'Never marry a woman named Candy,' and 'Never buy anything from a man who is out of breath.' "

Following the service, a group of Lakota tribal members burned incense outside the chapel and gave blessings to a number of funeral-goers, including actress Daryl Hannah, who also starred with Carradine in Kill Bill. Carradine's casket was then taken to his grave site.

The investigation into the cause of Carradine's death is ongoing. He was found hanging and partially bound in his hotel room. Citing conflicting reports about the circumstances of the death, the actor's brother, Keith Carradine, asked the FBI to help with the investigation, and also hired an independent pathologist.

Brad, Angelina, and the Pitts Give Back

Brad Pitt's brother Doug announced that the Pitt family (Brad,Angelina and the kids), Doug and his wife Lisa and Rob and Julie Neal (Brad's sister) are making a $1 million donation to St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Missouri!

The donation will be used to pay cancer specialists staffed by the hospital, as well as "new 31 pediatric unit, a 10-bedroom hospital-based Ronald McDonald House; and double the size the neonatal intensive and pediatric intensive care units."

Because of the generous donation, the center will be renamed St. John's Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center, after their mother.

"The Hangover" Hangs on to No.1 for a Second Week at the Box Office!


The hangover guys may be bummed but their film is No. 1 for the second week in a row!

Eddie Murphy's "Imagine That" bombs in its Premiere

(Ew) Moviegoers are still feeling The Hangover in the comedy's second weekend, making the boys-night-out romp the first movie of the summer to hold the top spot for two weeks in a row. A super-slim 26% decline (based on Sunday estimates) suggests great word of mouth and repeat business for the pic, which has already made $105.4 million and is now widely expected to cross the $200 million mark in the coming weeks.

The Hangover's stiffest competition was another holdover, Disney/Pixar's Up ($30.5 million). The animated adventure saw its total gross balloon to $187.2 million in its third weekend, putting it on track to outshine last year's hit WALL-E, which made $223 million. But Up's biggest payday is likely still to come. The movie has yet to open overseas, where Pixar titles often double their hauls (WALL-E made over $300 million in foreign countries, while 2007's Ratatouille cooked up a sizzling $414 million to complement its $206 domestic take).

Despite two A-list names above the title, the John Travolta/Denzel Washington thriller The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 landed in the C-slot at the weekend box office with a soft $25 million debut. John Travolta opted out of the film's promotional tour on account of his recent family tragedy, leaving Washington to plug the film solo on Letterman and at the film's premiere. Accordingly, the movie opened pretty much in line with past Washington action pics like Déjà Vu ($20.6 million) and Inside Man ($29.0 million), falling way short of the $43.6 million bow of 2007's American Gangster, when the actor shared top billing with Russell Crowe.

Rounding out the top five are Ben Stiller's Night at the Museum 2, which added $9.6 million to its collection for a $143.4 million total, and the Will Ferrell dud Land of the Lost, which dropped 51% for a $9.2 weekend haul and a $35 million cumulative gross.

But there's no doubt about the week's biggest loser: Eddie Murphy's Imagine That landed with a thud in the sixth-place spot, with just $5.7 million and a disastrous $1,894 per-site average from over 3,000 locations. It's the summer's biggest bomb so far, although it actually marks a slight improvement for Murphy, whose Meet Dave opened to a dismal $5.3 million last July.

Eight Officers Injured by Rowdy Laker Fans

(Msn) Los Angeles police say eight officers have suffered minor injuries during downtown disturbances that erupted amid street celebrations of the Lakers' NBA championship victory over the Orlando Magic.

Officer Gregory Baek says the officers were taken to hospitals for treatment of the injuries sustained during melees Sunday night in the Staples Center area.

What began as a lively but peaceful celebration took on a different tone for those remaining a few hours after the game. Some in the crowd vandalized buses and police cars, set small fires and threw rocks and bottles at police.

Police say 18 people were arrested for disturbing the peace, arson and other infractions.

Several police cruisers were damaged and reinforcement officers were called in from throughout the city to help disperse the crowd, Rayner said.

Aerial television footage showed people jumping on a police car, rocking vehicles attempting to pass through the crowd, setting small trees on fire and throwing fireworks and flares set up by police.

A garage was looted and several cars, buses and a news van were vandalized, police said.

Chief William Bratton commended officers for showing restraint despite "a lot of provocation from a number of knuckleheads," he told KTTV-TV.

"It's not easy to stand there when cowards in the middle of the crowd are throwing rocks and bottles at them," Bratton said.

Singer Kelis is suing her estranged husband rapper Nas for spousal and child support because she is "flat broke!" She is about to expect their baby any moment now and has filed legal papers against Nas for monetary support but he has not responded.

Evidently, Nas is filthy rich, as claimed by Kelis, and she says she "needs money to maintain her lifestyle of flying in first-class, maintaining 5 homes, going to fancy restaurants and so on."
Kelis has enlisted the help of "celebrity lawyer" Laura Wasser to help collect.

Despite legal rumblings there has been no response from Nas.

Good news for Actors/Celebrities Who Are "In-Between Jobs!"

CBS has ordered three more episodes of I Get That a Lot, its hidden camera series in which celebrities go undercover and work low-end jobs, fooling customers. The title is the response most look-alikes of certain actors/celebrities say when they are mistakenly recognized by the public. However, in this show, instead of the look-alike, the starring role is actually portrayed by the actual actor/celebrity.

In one episode, singer/actress Jessica Simpson fooled certain customers at a computer store acting as a computer technician while onlookers were quietly debating if SHE really was Jessica Simpson. Some had the fortitude to ask her directly but Simpson quickly responded with, "I get that a lot."

The show's initial outing in April drew a surprising 10 million viewers.

The news is particularly good for the "Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratts of the world" who were once front-page celebrities or stars that need to revive their careers or past reality-stars or one-hit musical wonders or a celebrity that enjoyed their 15 minutes of fame or basically "in-between jobs!"

My favorite scenario would be young karate students and their parents entering a Martial Arts studio and encounter Chuck Norris (who introduces himself under another name) as the guest instructor or Pamela Anderson working as a lifeguard at a local swimming pool amid gawking swimmers. The reaction from onlookers would be priceless!

Forbes Lists Harrison Ford as "Top Paid Actor!"

NO. 1 is Harrison Ford who led the Forbes list as the highest paid actor in Hollywood for earning $65M for his role on Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull (2008). In order to lure Ford back in his role as "Indy," Paramount Pictures made a lucrative deal that would split the earnings between Ford, Steven Spielberg, and George Lucas. Crystal Skull earned $750M worldwide.

Adam Sandler is no. 2 with $55M with hit films, "Bedtime Stories" and "You Don't Mess With the Zohan."

No. 3 is Will Smith ($45M) who earned his money from his films, "Hancock" and "Seven Pounds" earning $800M worldwide between them.

No.4 is Eddie Murphy ($40M) who took the spot despite his disastorous film, "Meet Dave." His latest dud "Imagine That" is continuing a horrible trend for Murphy which opened at only $5M this past weekend while showing at 3,000 theatres.


Nicolas Cage is No. 5 on the list

No.5 Nicolas Cage ($40M) grabs this spot with no hit film from last year but may make a big payday with upcoming films, "G-Force" an animated film involving super hamsters and a live-action film "The Sorcerers Apprentice."

No. 6 is Tom Hanks ($35M) who will earn a nice paycheck for his recent "Angels and Demons" (grossed over $400M so far) and his producing work on the musical, "Mamma Mia!"

No.7 is Tom Cruise ($30M) who did work on "Valkyrie" which didn't do too bad at the box office ($200M worldwide) and his funny cameo appearance on "Tropic Thunder" as the obnoxious hollywood executive.

No. 8 is funnyman Jim Carrey ($28M) who is one of two actors who collects $20M upfront (the other is Tom Hanks). His work on "Yes Man" will net him $35M once the movie earns all of its money.

No. 9 is Brad Pitt ($28M) who was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" (so far netting $333M worldwide). Up next is a potential hit film,"Inglorious Bastards."

No. 10 is Johnny Depp ($27M) which is amazing since he earned $72M last year and still finished second. A new "Pirates" movie is slated for 2012 and upcoming movies include the gangster epic, "Public Enemies" and as the Mad Hatter on Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland."

Note: To figure out earnings, Forbes talked to agents, managers, producers and lawyers to determine what the stars earned as upfront pay on movies they are currently shooting, as well as backend pay earned after a movie hit the theaters. In addition, the actor's salaries were also determined by possible earnings from doing ads for things like beer, banks and coffee.

Attention Chris Brown, the public won't fall for that!

Singer Chris Brown is in a campaign to "clear his name" by alligning himself with crisis management (another over-the-top word for public relations) organization Sitrick and Company who have been calculating his (Brown's) every move for the past six weeks. From the youtube videos where Brown proclaims "he is not a monster" to appearing at NBA games to showing up at a local college basketball gym and mingling among students, Brown is trying to put the "Rihanna-beating" situation behind the public's attention and show a softer image of himself before he goes to court in front of a 12-person jury on June 22 in downtown Los Angeles.

The firm has banned Brown from going to clubs but he did "slip-up" recently when he appeared at a club with the Kardashian sisters and Bow Wow. So far, Brown for the most part has obeyed their request.

The strategy from Sitrick and Company is opposite to what his Lawyers have urged that he stay underground until the trial.

Meanwhile, Rihanna has moved on with her life. She is expected to take the stand on June 22 to testify against Brown.

The Hogan's Divorce Trial Is Getting UGLY!!!!!!!

(Perez Hilton) The divorce battle between Hulk and Linda Hogan is heating up and this time there's no pre-determined winner!

According to Linda's longtime hair dresser, besides the fact that Linda is not actually blonde, Hulk's ex has been spending the temporary court-ordered alimony money on drugs.

Tracy Morgan (not to be confused with the standup comedian) testified in court on Monday in a hearing at the Hulk's request to lower Linda's $40,000 a month alimony, spilling the beans on a slew of scandalous expenses.

Linda apparently also purchased alcohol for minors when she threw a party for son Nick Hogan's release from jail.

Additionally, Linda would have Morgan close her salon to other customers when she came in, usually drunk and belligerent, or high on her pet combination of pot and roxycodone pills. She'd also vindictively threaten to burn the house down before ever letting Hulk move back into it.

Three other witnesses were called to the stand, including a man claiming Linda was high on cocaine, a personal shopper claiming that Linda blew a bunch of money on her boytoy boyfriend, and a United States Postal worker who claimed Linda offered to buy his custom car with alimony money.

Linda's attorney, however, contended that there was no way to prove that Linda's spending was out of her alimony pocket.

In addition to his wife, Hulk has the burden of handling his son Nick's legal trouble in which he (Nick) crashed his car and severely injured his friend who has permanent brain-damage. Hulk faces a personal injury lawsuit from the victim's family. With $40k a month alimony to Linda and Nick's anticipated payout to the family, how much money will Hulk have left?

New Miss California Tami Farrell is Smart and Stays Mum about Gay Issue



Much to the approval of Uber blogger Perez Hilton, the new Miss California Tami Farrell who took over for deposed Miss California Carrie Prejean, is not saying anything directly about the issue of same-sex marriage. She does NOT approve or disapprove the issue on whether it is right for gays to marry. She said she would rather let the voter's decide on that proposition (No. 8 in California) since she refers to it as a "civil rights issue."

Perez Hilton made a campaign of sorts using the media and his popular blog against the previous Miss California Carrie Prejean for her opinion that "marriage should ONLY be between a man and a woman." Prejean's beliefs raised a firestorm with Hilton and gay supporters until she was eventually fired (for her non-participation of Pageant events and NOT for her moral and political beliefs--said pageant officials).

Perez approve of the new Miss California? We think so.

Social Network Is the Only Communication Left For Any News from Iran



(CNN) U.S. officials say the Internet, and specifically social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, are providing the United States with critical information in the face of Iranian authorities banning Western journalists from covering political rallies.

Because the Iranians have shut down Web sites and closed newspapers, one senior official said, "one of the ways people are able to get out the word is Twitter."

"There are lots of people here watching" at bureaus and offices across the State Department, another senior official said. "There are some interesting messages going up."

Because the United States has no relations with Iran and does not have an embassy there, it is relying on media reports and the State Department's Iran Watch Offices in embassies around the world. The largest such offices are in Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Berlin, Germany; and London, England, all home to large Iranian expatriate communities.

Although officials would not say whether they were communicating with Iranians directly, one noted that the United States is learning about certain people being picked up for questioning by authorities through posts on Twitter.

"It is a very good example of where technology is helping," the official said.

Will anyone trust information on Twitter or Facebook? People may say that's the only information we could go on. Then again, Iranian officials can use these social networks and provide false information. Whatever the case, these networks are the only way to find out any news from what's happening in Iran. It may not be a good thing.

On a Side Note: Newscorp's Myspace has announced that they will lay off 430 jobs at the social network. Myspace has been struggling lately to rivals Facebook and Twitter. The 30% reduction will leave Myspace with 1000 employees.

Why We Love College?

Last Wednesday, UCLA students took part in their quarterly Undie Run in which more than 20,000 students participated in a run through the streets in their underwear to "relieve stress" or "mental release" from the grind of college life.

Campus police and emergency services have been put through the brink everytime an Undie Run is held due to drug and alcohol use and property damage. Last Wednesday's run produced more than 15 emergency calls and six transports of students who had alcohol poisoning. One UCLA student's car was badly damaged.

Another concern are the non-affiliated UCLA students who join in the quarterly run. Most of the serious incidents that occurred during the run involved individuals who were not UCLA-affiliated.

Sheesh! Enough about the problems the event causes. My big question is, "Why didn't my College have an undie run?" Damn, what a way to see your fellow classmates in their underwear!!!!!! What an excuse to party and take your clothes off with this event!!!!!! I miss college.

Reality-star and former singer from the band Wilson Phillips Carnie Wilson gave birth to a baby girl. She is the second child of Wilson and husband Ron Bonfiglio.

CBS is going reality-show crazy!!!! CBS is currently filming in Atlanta, Georgia on a show tentatively titled as Block Party. The show will center on 8 families in 8 homes who will be enclosed by a wall and "forced" to get along for 3 weeks in this "social experiment."

David Letterman has apologized again for an inappropriate joke that was meant for Sarah Palin's 18 year-old daughter Bristol rather than younger sister Willow (14 yrs. old). The misunderstanding raised an uproar and an advertiser (Embassy Suites) has already pulled their ads from the CBS website.

Lindsay Lohan's photo shoot with Elle magazine resulted in the theft of $500,000 worth of jewelry. Lohan is not a suspect and the focus has been on the Elle staff and outsiders.

The five games of the NBA Finals between the L.A. Lakers and the Orlando Magic averaged 14.3M viewers overall which is second best since 2004 and behind the 2008 finals (L.A. and Boston) which averaged 15.0M viewers.


8M viewers watched the Game 7 contest in which Pittsburgh defeated Detroit 2-1.

In the NHL, Game 7 between Pittsburgh and Detroit was a ratings bonanza with 8M viewers watching. This was the largest audience for an NHL game in 36 years!

Sims 3 the third installment in the popular video game from Electronic Arts is a big winner selling 1.4M units since its release on June 2.


The last surviving record store company, Virgin Megastores, closed Sunday

Goodbye record stores!!!! This past weekend was the last day for the final record store, Virgin Megastores, to close. The invention of Apple's Ipod and music cds now being sold by Wal Mart, Target, and Best Buy (Borders and Barnes & Noble sell music on a small scale) have contributed to the record stores demise. With downloading music so popular, the days of "hanging out" at a record store are now officially gone forever.

Mia Farrow's brother Patrick Farrow, 66, who died of so called "mysterious causes" was determined to have committed suicide by the Vermont State Police and Mia Farrow's representative.

Farrow died of a single gunshot wound to the head. The medical examiner's finding of suicide is consistent with evidence found at the scene.

Laker Fans Converge to the Coliseum for the Victory Parade!!!!!

With thousands of fans coming to the L.A. Coliseum for the Victory parade, there is major traffic congestion on nearby freeways (the 10 and the 110), side streets are filled with cars, sidewalks are filled with fans wearing their jerseys, and mass transportation (Buses and the Metro train) are filled with people for the 11AM celebration. The Coliseum is expected to be at full capacity (95,000) when the festivities begin.

Streets have been cordoned off around the Coliseum with extra Police and security manning their positions or roaming around. Undercover officers are among the fans watching for any suspicious activities. Staples Arena and L.A. Live areas are "off limits" and are being guarded by Police and security.

Good news. The parade will be financed entirely by private donors. The Wasserman family contributed almost half of the financing while private donors (choosing to remain anonymous) ponied up the rest. The City of L.A. did not have to pay a dime.

Conspiracy Involving Sarah Jessica Parker's Surrogate Mother

(Tmz) Two police chiefs in the area where Sarah Jessica Parker's surrogate mother lives are under investigation -- for allegedly concocting a plan to break into the surrogate's home to get info for a tabloid. The surrogate mother is carrying the twins of Sarah Jessica Parker (SJP) and Matthew Broderick. SJP wanted to keep the identity of the surrogate mother private but the tabloids have been unrelenting in their pursuit of obtaining information about the the woman who will deliver the famous couple's twins.

This recent episode involved Martins Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter and Bridgeport Police Dept. Chief Chad DoJack who were allegedly behind a plan to burglarize the surrogate's home in Martins Ferry, Ohio and then sell info to a tabloid reporter -- this according to WTRF TV.

We're told investigators have seized several computers. As for the operating theory -- investigators believe the culprits were trying to get photos from inside the house to show the living conditions.

Sean Penn Is Taking Time Off with the Family But Leaving Film In Limbo

Sean Penn is planning to take time off from shooting 2 films to focus his attention on being with his family. Penn has had problems with his marriage to wife Robin Wright Penn in the past with filing for divorce and legal separations on numerous occassions.

The Academy Award Winner approached Producers recently and announced that he would take an unspecified time off from the highly-anticipated film, The Three Stooges which stars Penn as "Larry" along with Benecio Del Toro (as "Moe") and Jim Carrey (as "Curley"). He also talked with Producers on his crime-thriller film, "Cartel."

Universal and Imagine Entertainment have decided to go on and film "Cartel" without Penn while The Three Stooges is in a precarious dilemma since it took almost a decade for the Farrelly brothers to get the project off the ground. In addition, the Farrelly's are thinking that a permanent loss of Penn may endanger Del Toro and Carrey from staying on the project.

Should the Farrelly's continue on without Penn and hire a new actor or wait? Scheduled filming is set to begin late August.

Justin Timberlake Busted By Lohan for "fooling around" with Another Girl!

Justin Timberlake was caught canoodling with an unknown brunette Monday night at The Avenue nightclub. Bystanders saw the very intoxicated Timberland holding hands and kissing someone that was NOT his girlfriend, Jessica Biel.

One of those bystanders just happened to be Lindsay Lohan,! Lohan watched on as JT made an okole out of himself with this girl, as well as treated guests to a 3 minute breakdance in which he "rolled around the floor and accidentally crashed into surrounding patrons."

So, just as any decent person would do and with an attack of "moral decency," Lindsay pulled out her phone, took a very dark pic, and Tweeted on her official Twitter: "…where's jb [Jessica Biel] cheater?"

Actress Mia Farrow's brother Patrick Farrow, 66, dies suspciously at his Art Gallery in Vermont. Farrow was a sculptor and won numerous national awards for his art work. His death remains a mystery because an unknown woman called Police about the tip-off.

Katie Holmes is rehearsing a broadway musical-type dance number for a "So You Think You Can Dance" segment. It is not known when Holmes will appear in which episode during the season.

PETA came out with a statement denouncing President Obama's swat of a fly during an interview at the White House. The fly's carcass was carried out in a respectful manner (with a designer handkerchief, of course) and promptly thrown in the WH trashcan. LOL!!!! PETA just cracks me up!!!!

A Touching Story of A Dying 10 year-old's Last Wish To See the Movie "UP"

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- Colby Curtin got her final wish.

The 10-year-old girl desperately wanted to see the new Disney-Pixar movie, "Up." But the cancer-stricken girl was too sick to go to a theater.

Thanks to a family friend who got in touch with the movie studio Pixar, an employee of the Emeryville-based company arrived at Colby's home with a DVD copy of the movie, The Orange County Register reported Friday. The girl died later that night.

Colby's mother, Lisa, said she had asked her daughter if she could hang on until the movie arrived.

"I'm ready (to die), but I'm going to wait for the movie," she said her daughter replied.

"Up" is the animated tale of a grumpy old man who, after his wife's death, tries to fulfill their joint dream of visiting South America by tying thousands of balloons to his house and floating away.

"When I watched it, I had really no idea about the content of the theme of the movie," Colby's mother told the Register. "I just know that word 'Up' and all of the balloons and I swear to you, for me it meant that (Colby) was going to go up. Up to heaven."

Colby, who was diagnosed with vascular cancer in 2005, saw previews for the film in April.

"It was from then on, she said, 'I have to see that movie. It is so cool,'" family friend Carole Lynch said.

But the girl's health began to deteriorate. On June 4, Curtin asked a hospice company to bring a wheelchair so that her daughter could go to a movie theater but the chair was not delivered over the weekend, Curtin said.

By June 9, Colby was too sick to go anywhere.

Another family friend, Terrell Orum, called both Pixar and Disney, which owns the animation studio. The message was received by Pixar officials, who agreed to send someone to Colby's house the next day with a copy of "Up" for a private screening, Orum said.

The employee arrived with the DVD, stuffed animals of characters and other movie memorabilia.

Colby was unable to open her eyes to see the movie so her mother described the scenes. When her mother asked if she enjoyed it, the girl nodded, Curtin said.

The Pixar employee left after the movie, taking the DVD, which has not been released. Lynch, who was with the family during the screening, said the employee's "eyes were just welled up."

A call to Pixar seeking comment was not immediately returned Friday.

Colby, with her parents nearby, died later that night.

Her mother said one of the memorabilia left by the Pixar employee was an "adventure book" based on a scrapbook that, in the movie, is kept by the wife of the main character.

"I'll have to fill those adventures in for her," Lisa Curtin said of her daughter.

I think she's worried that the only work she could get after this reunion is that Celeb Has-Been Reality show.... LOL

Pop singer Rihanna will take the stand today at 1:45pm PT in a preliminary hearing against her former boyfriend Chris Brown.

Rihanna's testimony is hugely important because many questions will have to be answered. Will she stick to the story she told cops the night of the beating? Rihanna said Brown had beaten her before and the violence was escalating.

Another big question -- will Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, cross-examine Rihanna? Insiders say that if the case goes to trial Geragos will make a big point that Rihanna was the initial aggressor, repeatedly hitting him before he began pounding on her.

Equally important ... the photos of Rihanna's battered face. One photo graphically shows brutality of the beating. Yet other photos not seen on the internet pale by comparison to pictures taken the next day after the bruising and swelling settled. Those photos will almost certainly be introduced into evidence during the prelim.

The judge will not allow any television coverage in the courtroom.

"The Proposal" No. 1 at the Box Office this Weekend

"The Hangover" takes 2nd after two weeks at the top spot

(Bloomberg) Walt Disney Co.’s romantic comedy “The Proposal” debuted as the top film in the U.S. and Canada over the weekend, as star Sandra Bullock’s best-ever opener gave the company its second No. 1 movie in a month.

“The Proposal” had $34.1 million in ticket sales, researcher Hollywood.com Box-Office said yesterday in an e- mailed statement. Time Warner Inc.’s “The Hangover” slipped to second with $26.9 million, while “Up” from Disney’s Pixar Animation Studios had $21.3 million in receipts.

The two Disney movies have brought in a combined $258.2 million since the animated 3-D feature “Up” opened at No. 1 four weeks ago. Bullock is identified with romantic comedies, and “The Proposal” gave audiences exactly what they went for, said Brandon Gray, president of Box Office Mojo in Sherman Oaks, California.

“Sandra is probably an underrated star, because she’s one of the few who can actually draw an audience when she’s in the right movie,” Gray said. “A lot of movies suffer from a lack of clarity or a lack of information in their advertisements, but ‘The Proposal’ was on point and promised a rollicking romantic good time for all.”

In “The Proposal,” Bullock plays an executive who faces deportation to her native Canada. She tries to fool U.S. immigration authorities by having her assistant, played by Ryan Reynolds, pose as her American fiancé. Gitesh Pandya, editor of Box Office Guru LLC, projected the film to earn as much as $22 million in its debut weekend.

‘The Hangover’

The top 12 films this weekend grossed $140.7 million, up 1.64 percent from a year earlier, Hollywood.com said. Ticket sales for all films rose 2.85 percent to $147 million.

“The Hangover,” a comedy about the aftermath of a bachelor party gone awry in Las Vegas, was the top film the two previous weekends. It has taken in $152.9 million since it opened on June 5.

“‘The Hangover’ is like a hangover; it just won’t go away,” Gray said. “It’s one of the great box-office successes of the year.”

“Up” is Disney’s most successful film this year with $224.1 million in receipts since its May 29 release and has helped lift the studio from last place among its Hollywood peers. The movie, featuring the voice of Ed Asner, drew family audiences with its story of an accidental friendship between a young boy and an elderly man who finally achieves his dream of foreign travel.

“Year One,” from Sony Corp., debuted in fourth place with $20.2 million. The film stars Jack Black and Michael Cera as hapless hunter-gatherers kicked out of their tribe for violating a taboo. Their wanderings lead to run-ins with Cain and Abel and other Old Testament figures. “Year One” was forecast by Pandya to generate $20 million in sales.

Sony’s “The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3,” starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta, fell to fifth from third with $11.3 million.

Sony Pictures Classic’s “Whatever Works,” by director Woody Allen, took in $280,720 in nine theaters, the best limited-release opener this year, according to Paul Dergarabedian, an analyst at Hollywood.com Box-office. The per- theater average of $31,191 was triple the $11,163 for “The Proposal.” The film will expand into more than 300 theaters on July 3, according to Dergarabedian.

A comedy led box-office sales for a fifth consecutive weekend. That may end next week when Viacom Inc. releases “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” a sequel to 2007’s “Transformers.” Advance sales for the sequel were ahead of the first film by a 3-to-1 margin as of June 17, according to online vendor MovieTickets.com.

The movie, which opens June 24, has the potential to gross more than $200 million in its first seven days, nearing the record $238.6 million set by “The Dark Knight” in July 2008, Gray said.

The original “Transformers,” released in 2007, opened with $70.5 million and took in $708.3 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo, which tracks receipts.

FX's "Nip and Tuck" was abruptly cancelled. June 12 was it's last episode and the finale is slated to be shown not until 2011! WTF???? Apparently, the creative team of Nip went over to Fox Tv's Glee and have "moved on." As for addressing the fans of the show, FX has no comment.

The two Ohio police chiefs who tried to sell pictures to the National Enquirer of the home of Sarah Jessica Parker's surrogate mother are in a heapin' trouble. Police chiefs Barry Carpenter and Chad Dojack barged in "illegally" to the home of the surrogate mother and took pictures of the "ransacked" house. Initially the two were offering the Enquirer $15k but decided to raise the offer to twice that!

The Enquirer did not like their selling tactics and "ratted them out!" The tabloid has said that they were not involved in this scandal in any way!

Fawcett's health has been deteriorating due to her fight with cancer. No timetable has been set for the the ceremony.

The Ultimate "Sidekick" Passes Away



Ed McMahon has passed away at 86.

(Baltimore Sun) He died at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in California this morning. McMahon was fighting a multitude of health problems, including cancer.

A source connected with the family said, "Ed was at peace because he got his business taken care of. He settled his lawsuit with Cedars Sinai Hospital and with the settlement he was able to take care of his family."

Born in Detroit in 1923, he was raised in The Great Depression. His father has been variously described as a struggling vaudeville performer, salesman, pitchman and conman. Whatever the truth, McMahon's family often moved, and later in life, the performer claimed to have attended 15 different high schools. McMahon would later work his way through college during the summers as a carnival barker. He graduated from Catholic University in 1949.

He served as a Marine flight instructor during World War II, and then re-enlisted and flew 85 combat missions as a pilot during the Korean War.

In true Hollywood fashion, McMahon's climb in Hollywood started while working on local TV in Philadelphia when Johnny Carson summoned him to be second banana on the Who Do You Trust? quiz show in ABC in 1958. When Carson got the call to host The Tonight Show in 1962, he took McMahon with him. They would come to rule the latenight roost for three decades knocking off challenger after challenger on the other networks.

He is best known as Johnny Carson's sidekick on "The Tonight Show" and for his infamous catchphrase, "Heeeeeeeeeeere's Johnny!"

Testament to McMahon's talent, he did find show business life after The Tonight Show. He served as host of Star Search from 1983 to 1995 -- a talent show that reached back to the Ted Mack Amateur Hour and anticipated American Idol in its competition, voting, judges and discovery of unknown talent. America's Got Talent, which begins a new season this week, is a direct descendant. McMahon was both genial host and father figure to the contestants. McMahon was also a host on the popular "TV Bloopers And Practical Jokes" with Dick Clark.

Harking back to his youthful summers as a carnival barker, McMahon during this period, also became one of the most ever-present pitchmen in the history of television. From American Family Publishers Clearinghouse to Budweiser Beer, he was a popular spokesperson on the tube selling everything in the 1980s and 90s.

McMahon is survived by his third wife, Pamela Hurn and 5 children. A sixth died in 2005.

Farrah Fawcett has been hospitalized. She checked into a Southern California Hospital earlier today. This comes a day after she accepted the marriage proposal from longtime-companion Ryan O'Neal. Sources say that Fawcett is not doing well in her fight against cancer.

There is no exact number of women who were involved but two individuals said they were doped up with a date-rape drug. Investigators said that there were previous incidents at Brooks' apartment in 2007 and 3 reported in 2008.

Tmz reports that the Governor of South Carolina just confirmed everyone's suspicions that the reason he went missing for five days was because he was not-so-secretly cheating on his wife. The affair was Not a secret, says the Governor, because his wife knew about his affair beforehand.

Gov. Mark Sanford just admitted in a press conference to jetting over to Argentina to hook up with a woman who was not his wife -- and said the affair started about a year ago.

He asked for forgiveness from pretty much everyone, including his wife and 4 kids. He's resigned as chairman of the Republican Governors Association but did not resign as Governor of South Carolina. Story developing. . .

Time Warner and Comcast team up to launch online video service

(LA Times) Two of the biggest media titans are teaming up to build a system to offer more television shows online to people who currently subscribe to cable television.

Time Warner Inc. Chief Executive Jeff Bewkes and Comcast Corp. Chief Executive Brian Roberts this morning unveiled a partnership that initially will provide shows from two of Time Warner's cable channels -- TNT and TBS -- through a broadband connection to cable subscribers. The test will begin next month with 5,000 Comcast subscribers, and to all Comcast customers nationwide by year's end.

Both Bewkes and Roberts stressed that current cable subscribers will not pay more for the service. "They don't have to pay any extra fees for it," Roberts said. "This marks the very logical next evolution of cable television."

However, people will have to subscribe to a pay television service -- initially Comcast and eventually other cable companies such as Time Warner Cable -- or a satellite service provider or a telephone company. The initial test will be available only to Comcast customers.

The initiative, which Comcast is calling OnDemand Online and Time Warner has dubbed TV Everywhere, is a response to the migration of viewers to the Internet. Bewkes and Roberts said they simply want to adapt the current economic model to the Internet so people could watch their favorite cable shows on their computers or mobile phones.

The move demonstrates a divide in the media industry. Companies including NBC Universal and News Corp. have hurried to make their hit TV shows available free online on video sites such as Hulu. But cable companies pay programmers some $22 billion annually for the rights to play their TV shows, and they don't want those same programs shown for free on the Internet.

Time Warner has not offered streams of its cable channel shows, including TNT's "The Closer" or "Saving Grace," on sites such as Hulu. Bewkes said that while he recognized that more people were watching shows online, he wanted to preserve the current economic model -- a combination of advertising revenue and cable subscription fees -- that underwrites the cost of producing television shows.

"It is a very innovative model that the industry has. We are trying to take that basic structure and put it on the Internet, augmenting its appeal and its convenience," Bewkes said. "We anticipate all of our networks coming into this."

Cable companies have been fine-tuning a technology to "authenticate" whether the person logging on to a website also is the same person who is paying for cable or satellite service. Roberts and Bewkes said the technology was relatively easy.

Michael Jackson Dies!!!!

(Tmz) Tmz has just reported that Michael Jackson has died. He was 50.

Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon and paramedics were unable to revive him. When paramedics arrived, Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back. Capt. Steve Ruda confirmed that Jackson was not breathing and could not be revived when emergency crews arrived on-scene.

Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.

Updated 3:23pm PT. Los Angeles Times has confirmed Jackson's death.

R.I.P. Farrah Fawcett

(Tmz) Farrah Fawcett died at 9:28 AM today. Ryan O'Neal and Alana Stewart were at her bedside. She was 62.

She died at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica in the ICU. Her only child, Redmond, was not present.

Farrah was diagnosed with anal cancer back in 2006.

(People) "She's gone. She now belongs to the ages," O'Neal tells PEOPLE. "She's now with he mother and sister and her God. I loved her with all my heart. I will miss her so very, very much. She was in and out of consciousness. I talked to her all through the night. I told her how very much I loved her. She's in a better place now."

Like so much about Fawcett's life – including her bumpy relationship with O'Neal – her heroic struggle to beat the disease was closely followed by her legion of fans.

"I've watched her this past year fight with such courage and so valiantly, but with such humor," Fawcett's Charlie's Angels costar Kate Jackson told PEOPLE in November 2007.

O'Neal, in particular, remained a steadfast supporter of Fawcett, who, despite her frailty, spent the last months of her life filming a TV documentary chronicling her illness, including several trips to Germany to undergo experimental treatment. Fawcett is survived by her son with O'Neal, Redmond, 24, who is currently serving a prison term in California after repeated drug offenses.

Redmond, was not there at Fawcett's side when she died, but spoke to his mother on the phone told her "how much he loved her and asked her to please forgive him that he was so very, very sorry," O'Neal tells PEOPLE.

Texas Charmer

Blonde, blue-eyed and petite – and with a trademark mane as flowing and famous as the M.G.M. lion's – the Corpus Christi, Texas, native was born Feb. 2, 1947, the younger daughter of an oil-field contractor and his homemaker wife.

A magnet for male students at the University of Texas at Austin, Fawcett eventually set off for Hollywood. Quickly noticed by casting agents, she began landing small parts in forgettable movies, such as 1970's Myra Breckinridge, based on a gender-bending novel by Gore Vidal. Her role: an ingenuous blonde.

In 1973, Fawcett married actor Lee Majors, forever known as Col. Steve Austin on TV's The Six Million Dollar Man. Three years later, she appeared in the cult sci-fi film Logan's Run and began her stint with costars Jackson and Jaclyn Smith on Charlie's Angels. Well-coiffed and scantily-clad, the threesome created an instant sensation, with a weekly following of 23 million fans.

Fawcett moved on after just one season. By then, she was already a phenomenon, having donned a one-piece red bathing suit and a perfect smile for her legendary pin-up poster, which sold a still-record 12 million copies.

"I became famous almost before I had a craft," Fawcett told The New York Times in 1986, four years after her divorce from Majors. (By then, she was already involved with Ryan O'Neal.) "I didn't study drama at school. I was an art major. Suddenly, when I was doing Charlie's Angels, I was getting all this fan mail, and I didn't really know why. I don't think anybody else did, either."

Bumpy Film Career

Though she left TV for what was assumed to be greener pastures – feature films – Fawcett's initial three big-screen vehicles all crash-landed. Her first, 1978's Somebody Killed Her Husband, was lampooned in MAD magazine under the title, Somebody Killed Her Career.

It took some serious dramatic TV roles, including that of a battered wife in 1984's The Burning Bed (which earned her an Emmy nomination), as well as starring in small-screen biopics about pioneering photojournalist Margaret Bourke-White and ill-fated Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton, for Fawcett to bounce back.

"What would you do if someone said to you, 'You're so popular right now that you can be on the cover of every magazine, but if you do that, you might get overexposed and a backlash will develop'?" Fawcett told The Times after she had emerged from one of the valleys of her career.

Still, she said of fighting for survival in Hollywood, "That's life. Everything has positive and negative consequences."

Woman Claims "Rampage" Jackson Killed her Baby!!!!!

(Tmz) The pregnant woman caught in the wake of "Rampage" Jackson's crazy monster truck chase last year claims the UFC star caused "the stillbirth of her baby" when he rammed into her car.

Holli Griggs filed a lawsuit against Rampage in Orange County, California -- claiming he repeatedly rammed into her car "so he could escape and flee the scene (hit and run)." Griggs says "the impact of her abdomen with the steering wheel caused her amniotic fluid membranes (bag of waters) to rupture, ultimately resulting in the stillbirth of her baby."

Rampage was never charged in relation to the death after an investigation revealed that the miscarriage was unrelated to the accident.

Griggs filed the suit anyway, claiming Rampage owes her more than $25k for property damage, personal injury and emotional distress.

Kate Walsh Divorce Is Getting Nasty!!!!!

Alex Young, the soon-to-be ex-husband of Private Practice star Kate Walsh is raising "hell" in their divorce case. Young and Walsh are in a bitter battle over finances for which Young is entitled to half, based on California law. Young disputes Kate Walsh's claims on her current earnings and suspects she is hiding money from him.

Young's lawyer Jeff Sturman believes that Walsh may be in for a big payday from ABC and that his client is entitled to a 50/50 split. Young wants to know about her exact earnings, bonuses, future deals, and new projects from ABC in order to calculate his take in the divorce.

So far, ABC will not reveal that information. With the nastiness involved, it's only a matter of time that Walsh's entire earnings (and future considerations) will be eventually exposed.

Billy Bob Thornton's Daughter Indicted for Murder!!

The long estranged daughter of Billy Bob Thornton, Amanda Brumfield, has been charged for the murder of a one year-old girl who was under her care. In October, Brumfield told the cops that the girl died after falling from her playpen. Detectives had a difficult time believing her because her story was not consistent with the girl's injuries.

Later, an autopsy determined the child suffered a fractured skull and a subdural hematoma due to blunt trauma.

Thornton's publicist said that the two "have not spoken for some time."
