I remember when I got my 3G. And then the madness continue with the next two phone 4, and 5. Now, it's not news anymore. I had the 6S, would have kept it. I only upgraded to the 8 because the 8 is suppose to be water resistant.

Honestly, I'm not exactly sure if I would upgrade to the new phone (whatever model at that time) when my payment is done in 1 more year. If the battery is worn, I may just replace the battery.

I value my phone very much as it's part of moden life today, but I don't really see the value anymore spending $1,000.

Well, next year you might want to look at the iPhone XR (or whatever the cheapest model iPhone) is at that time. Also, upgrade your iPhone to iOS 12 (see above links).

As for your battery, I don't think you'd need to replace it next year. For anyone else with an older iPhone that needs to replace their battery, I'd do it before the end of year.
