F-35 Lightning II
One Fighter to Rule Them All: The F-35 Is Finally Unleashed
By Dave Majumdar
January 27, 2016
The U.S. Marine Corps will be sending its stealthy Lockheed Martin F-35B short takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL) version of the Joint Strike
Fighter (JSF) to the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) and Farnborough airshows in the United Kingdom this summer.
The F-35’s appearance at Farnborough marks the type’s debut at one of the world’s two largest defense-aerospace tradeshows (the other
being Le Bourget). It’s also a signal that the Pentagon and Lockheed Martin are going to be ramping up their sales campaign for the stealthy
new jet as the U.S. Air Force’s F-35A conventional takeoff variant is set to become operational later this year. The STOVL version—which is
making the journey to Britain—became operational last July. “The U.S. Marine Corps is looking forward to demonstrating capabilities of the
F-35B Lightning II in the skies over the United Kingdom this July,” said Lt. Gen. Jon Davis, the U.S. Marine Corps’ deputy commandant for
aviation earlier this week.

I would like to see that at an air sow in a couple of years.

I wonder how many years at my measly salary that it would take for me to buy one of those puppies?

Funding for the Marine Corps' new F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and the F/A-18 Hornet will get a boost next
year, Defense Secretary Ash Carter told troops this week.
During a visit on Wednesday to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, coming a week before the
release of the Pentagon's proposed fiscal 2017 budget, Carter told Marines that maintaining readiness in
aviation for the Corps was a top priority.

F-35 arrival at NAS Patuxent River after first transatlantic crossing B-roll and pilot interview
By David Cenciotti
February 7, 2016
On Feb. 5, the Italian Air Force’s first F-35, dubbed AL-1 and serialled MM7332 (with code “32-01” and markings of the 32° Stormo – Wing)
landed at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Mariland, at the end of the JSF’s first ever transatlantic flight.
The aircraft was piloted by one of the two ItAF test pilots, belonging to the Reparto Sperimentale Volo (Test Wing) from Pratica di Mare, who
successfully completed the training at Luke AFB in November last year.
The following B-roll (H/T to @JamesDrewNews) shows the aircraft, landing at Pax River along with one of the supporting KC-767s (the F-35
was supported by 2x KC-767s, 2x C-130Js and 2x Typhoons).

Nothing Improves a Sunset Like an F-35A With Full Afterburners

Yes, the F-35 may have had all kinds of trouble with cost overruns. And yes, budget cuts will shrink the
ultimate size of the fleet. Yes, reports have cast doubt on its combat readiness. But man does it ever
look pretty taking off at twilight with afterburners in full bloom.

Israel’s F-35s Will Be Unique In More Ways Than One
Special systems, weapons and status for Jewish state’s stealth fighters
By David Axe
May 4, 2016
Israel is practically a launch customer for the American-designed F-35 stealth fighter. The Jewish state plans on declaring its first squadron
of the radar-evading jet combat-ready by the end of 2017.
That’s just two years after the U.S. Marine Corps’ declaration of war-readiness for its F-35s — and one year later than the U.S. Air Force’s
own planned introduction of the new plane.
And Israel’s F-35s will be unique. While most foreign customers of the stealth fighter plan to operate fairly standard F-35s, Tel Aviv is heaping
its own special tech onto the airframe.

The U.S. Air Force made its first Atlantic crossing with the F-35A—the conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) variant of the Lightning II
used by the USAF—on Thursday June 30. Three F-35A's will participate in the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), one of the largest airshows
in the world, at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, England, from July 8 to 10. The Joint Strike Fighter will fly with an F-22 Raptor and a
P-51 Mustang acting as the warbird of the formation.

Re: F-35 Lightning II
The F-35 Is About to Get A Lot Cheaper. Sort Of.
The high-tech plane is cheaper to fly off the lot, but still expensive to maintain.
By Kyle Mizokami
July 11, 2016
The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter is finally getting more affordable. According to comments by manufacturer Lockheed Martin's CEO to CNBC,
planes bought in 2019 will be cheaper by a factor of nearly one half. CEO Marilyn Hewson told CNBC that with the first aircraft delivered,
the defense giant is "on a path to be down to a price of $85 million per jet by 2019."
Hewson was almost certainly referring to the -A model of the F-35, which has booked orders from the United States Air Force, Australia,
Turkey, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Israel, Japan, and Korea—more than any other variant of the F-35.(The other variants include
the vertical takeoff and landing -B model, which is being ordered by the U.S. Marine Corps, United Kingdom, and Italy, and the aircraft
carrier-optimized -C model, which will be operated by the U.S. Navy.)

The $100 million F-35B jet finally made its airshow debut at the U.K.'s Farnborough Airshow on
Tuesday. The jet demonstrated its ability to hover stationary above the ground. Here's a look
into the numbers behind the Pentagon's most expensive weapons' program.
