I Want To Believe: Why the New X-Files Series Will Be Worth the Wait

By Maura McAndrew

Sometimes it’s hard to believe that The X-Files debuted on Fox over 20 years ago—partly because
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson seemingly refuse to age, and partly because of the way the
show’s world is still very much thriving in its fans’ minds. With its story of FBI agents Fox Mulder
(Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson)—their encounters with the supernatural and their
fight to uncover a government conspiracy—The X-Files built a fan base slowly and deliberately over
time, an act even more impressive given the show’s cluing in early to the power of the world wide
web’s chat rooms, but gone from networks before such things as social media made brand-building
so ubiquitous.

MIPCOM: New 'X-Files' Wows at World Premiere

by Scott Roxborough

“This is a dream come true for me,” said series creator Chris Carter, who added that the cult conspiracy drama could
continue past Fox's new six-episode reboot.

Cynical industry journalists turned into gawking fanboys at the MIPCOM television trade fair on Tuesday night when Fox
screened — in its world premiere — the first episode of the hotly anticipated return of The X-Files.

X-Files creator Chris Carter attended the launch, held in Cannes, France, and said that returning to the show, which went
off the air in 2002, felt “surreal.” He added that it was “a dream come true” to bring back FBI agents Fox Mulder and
Dana Scully, played by original stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

Watch: Latest ‘X-Files’ Promo Has Mulder Doubting the Truth

By Laura Prudom
October 19, 2015

“The X-Files” has always told us that the truth is out there, but in the latest promo for the sci-fi
show’s upcoming revival, even the show’s most staunch conspiracy theorist, Special Agent Fox Mulder
(David Duchovny) is starting to question his beliefs.

“What if our work, the X-Files, everything we’ve been led to believe in, is a lie?” Mulder asks in the
new 30-second trailer that debuted during “Gotham” on Monday night.

The X-Files: The 4 Alums Chris Carter Couldn't Get Back for the Revival

By Michael Ausiello

Fox’s forthcoming X-Files revival boasts an embarrassment of A-Team riches in front of and behind the
camera. In addition to returning stars David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and Mitch Pileggi, the six-hour
continuation features episodes written and directed by behind-the-scenes MVPs Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan,
James Wong, and, of course, series creator Chris Carter.

But Carter says that there were four names on his wish list that didn’t end up participating in the limited
series, but it wasn’t for lack of trying on his part.

The X-Files at EW Fest: 7 things we learned

by Kelly Connolly

X-Files fans got a glimpse inside the writers’ room on Saturday at EW Fest — not that the groundbreaking
sci-fi series ever had a writers’ room in a traditional sense.

As executive producer/ writer Glen Morgan, who is returning for the show’s new season in January, recalled,
the writers rarely broke stories in a group, working instead out of boxy offices or each other’s backyards. But
out of the series’ regular group of writers came a number of TV’s biggest influencers, including Vince Gilligan
(Breaking Bad) and Frank Spotnitz (Man in the High Castle).

Series creator Chris Carter joined Glen Morgan and fellow writer/ producer Darin Morgan onstage, in a panel
moderated by EW’s own Jeff Jensen, to look back on the experience of writing The X-Files and tease what fans
can expect from the series’ return. Here’s what we learned:

The X-Files: Here's Everything You Need To Know About The Return Episode

Cory Barker

Lucky us—the most anticipated premiere of 2016 comes in the first month of the year. I'm of course talking
about the return of one of the best and most influential shows ever, The X-Files. The six-episode event
continuation of the long-running sci-fi drama premieres on Sunday, January 24 at 10pm after the NFC
Championship Game on Fox, and then settles into a normal Monday timeslot the very next night at 9pm.

That means we're almost exactly two months away from the show's return, but it's never too early to get
unbelievably excited, right? Especially when Fox was nice enough to make the first episode back, "My Struggle,"
available as a sneak preview. That's right, ladies and gents, I've seen the first new episode of The X-Files in
13 years and I'm here to stoke those anticipatory fires just a little bit more. This preview will NOT reveal key
plot points from the episode, but it will hint at them, so if you're especially spoilerphobic, go ahead and close
that tab, shut your laptop, and slink back to your steel reinforced, password protected mega-bunker.

X marks Mulder and Scully in exclusive new X-Files poster

We’ve seen the future, and the future looks just like this poster.

Exclusive new X-Files key art finds agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson)
back in their signature FBI-approved threads, framed in the letter that gave its name to their “spooky” case
files. And is that a haze of familiar, ominous smoke closing in on the partners? As the tagline reads, the truth
is still out there.

‘The X-Files’: How Fox Revived Mulder and Scully’s Search for the Truth

JASON MADARA FOR VARIETY

The set-up is classic “X-Files.” A top-secret location. The corpse of a victim snuffed out under mysterious circumstances.
A shady official managing the situation. FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully trying to uncover the truth.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have played scenes like this over a hundred times before. It should be a cakewalk.
But on this August afternoon on a Vancouver soundstage, nothing’s going right. The actors are tripping over their lines.
They can’t hear writer-director James Wong’s cues through the walls of the set from his perch behind the monitor.
Anderson feels the blocking is off. And then a small piece of the set — the inner sanctum of a tech company’s private
server — comes crashing down.

Chris Carter on Reviving 'The X-Files': 'I Knew We Had Stories to Tell'

by Chris Carter
January 21, 2016

Image

Over a year ago, in the Fall of 2014, I got a call out of the blue from 20th Century Fox asking me
if I would consider bringing The X-Files back to television. There had been the suggestion of this
at a 20th anniversary event at ComicCon a year earlier, but it seemed like wishful thinking by a
vocal contingent of diehard fans. Whether Fox was listening or simply wanted to capitalize on a
trend of rebooting old shows wasn’t clear. Again, this could have been simply talk but Fox was
quick to add that the actors, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, were both very interested
in the idea. That was really all it took to convince me there was good work to be done. A must if
we were going to do this right. Whatever anyone else’s intentions, I knew we had new stories to tell.
