The ‘Star Wars’-Inspired History of the Iconic THX Audio Logo
Rob Walker
Tech Columnist
April 2, 2015
Digital audio engineer James A. Moorer has had an impressive career: He holds multiple patents, has won an Oscar and an Emmy, and was involved in the founding of Stanford’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics.
But his most famous and familiar work is something that came together in just four days back in the early 1980s. You’ve heard it if you’ve gone to the movies since then, and maybe even if you haven’t. It starts quietly, and it doesn’t last long, but it quickly swirls and builds a kind of thundering tone that can’t be ignored.
It’s the “audio logo” that announces that you’re in a THX-ready theater. It even has a name: Deep Note.

'Star Wars' Never-Before-Heard Interview: Carrie Fisher 'Scared to Death' Before Iconic Swing Across Scene
Good Morning America
April 8, 2015
The "Star Wars" scene where Leia and Luke swing across a giant cavern to escape the Stormtroopers in the original film has become screen legend and in a never-before-heard interview, Carrie Fisher reveals what was going through her head in the moments beforehand.
“In the swing across, I had to hold a gun, which is very heavy, and that scared me. I thought I’d drop it,” she said in the clip, released today in celebration of “The Star Wars” franchise’s first-ever digital release on Friday. “George [Lucas] wanted me to say ‘for luck’ and then shoot the gun and then swing. I was scared to death. They put all those boxes down and I couldn’t see how those boxes were going to prevent me from breaking many bones. But if one fell, we both fall. I could see both [Mark Hamill] and I on insurance for the rest of our lives.”

That'll be nice for the younger generation who are tied to their phones and tablets all day to get into the SW hype. Give me a big screen TV and the Blu-ray or dvd over those small screens any day.Kailuaboy wrote:'Star Wars' Movies Finally Available for Digital Download Beginning Friday

Mark Hamill felt forced into returning for 'Star Wars: Episode VII'
By Kirsten Acuna
April 19, 2015
(Verizon/Disney)Mark Hamill showing his outward reaction as he learned about the new "Star Wars" trilogy from George Lucas. During the
annual "Star Wars Celebration" event from April 16-19, actor Mark Hamill told a great story of how he first heard about the new "Star Wars" trilogy.
Hamill said he, his wife, and Carrie Fisher were invited to a lunch by George Lucas' people while at a "Star Wars" event.
It struck Hamill as a bit odd. The actor figured it meant something big was going on; however, he never imagined it was another trilogy.

235 days until Star Wars: Does Battlefront's 'Battle of Jakku' promo art have a spoiler?
Hitfix
Donna Dickens
April 27, 2015
When Disney said they were going to bring all the entire Star Wars saga under one continuity umbrella, they weren't kidding. Even the latest game by EA, Star Wars Battlefront, will take cues from the Holocron Keeper.
As part of this interconnected dance, Battlefront will drop free DLC (down-loadable content) on December 1st, 2015 for everyone who purchased the game. Entitled “The Battle of Jakku,” the all new skirmish will set the stage for the desert planet featured in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” To help build hype, EA Games released this photo showing two scuffed up and aged lightsaber hilts.

New Behind-the-Scenes Footage Teases More About 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'
By John Wenz
May 4, 2015
Everyone is rabid for every tantalizing clue about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and as usual when it comes to Star Wars movies, Vanity Fair has the scoop with a big cover story and this behind-the-scenes footage from the shooting.
Some of what we see is pretty basic, but there are some intriguing elements. Like Han Solo and Chewbacca. Or that Lupita Nyong'o's character will be a CGI pirate named Maz Kanata (seemingly a strange choice for a film bragging about its practical effects). There's a peak at the company she keeps as well—the sort of cantina-ish assortment of bizarre aliens.

May the fourth be with you, space druids
Tim Russ is best known for playing Tuvok in Star Trek: Voyager (and due to an "I was an extra" retconning, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country). But thanks to the folks at the Upright Citizen's Brigade, he's here with a helpful rundown of that other franchise: Star Wars.

'Star Wars' Battle of Endor gets the 'Real Fake History' treatment
by Bonnie Burton
July 2, 2015
Link
Any "Star Wars" fan will tell you that the Battle of Endor was a crucial moment for Rebel forces trying to
overthrow Darth Vader and his attempt to build a second Death Star.
If it wasn't for Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker, C-3PO and R2-D2 helping to take
down the Empire -- not to mention the countless Ewoks who ended up giving their lives that day
-- where would we be today?
As part of its new "Real Fake History" series that parodies History Channel shorts, YouTube channel
Machinima takes a closer look at the Battle of Endor from "Star Wars Return of the Jedi."

Unleash your inner 'Star Wars' geek with new mobile app
by Anthony Domanico
July 8, 2015

The Force can be with us, in our pockets. Well, as long as we download Disney and Lucasfilm's new "Star Wars"
mobile app for iOS and Android, that is.
The app, which was released to the respective app stores on Wednesday, is essentially a 24-7 hub for all things
"Star Wars." It features instant notifications for breaking news like the just-announced Han Solo spinoff film, fun
facts about things that happened on this day in "Star Wars" history, and a countdown to the release of
"Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" (only 162 days left, people!). There's also a weather hub that tells
you which "Star Wars" planet your city feels like -- at 65 degrees Fahrenheit (about 18 degrees Celsius), Minneapolis
feels like Endor at the moment, for example.
