Lego Battleship Yamato Is Biggest Lego Ship Ever

By Jesus Diaz

Like its real counterpart, this Battleship Yamato is the biggest Lego ship ever constructed. At 22 feet long, it took 6 years and 4 months to complete by one of our Lego contest winners. [Updated]

The Yamato—along with her sister ship Musashi—was the largest battleship ever constructed: 862 feet and 10 inches long and 121 feet long at its widest point. Made by Jumpei Mitsui, the Lego version was constructed at minifig scale (1/40), which is an amazing task that resulted in these specs:

Harmonix Announces LEGO: Rock Band

By Brian Ashcraft,
7:45 AM on Tue Apr 21 2009

Image

It's real! Earlier this month at GDC, Harmonix developer senior designer Dan Teasdale unwittingly confirmed LEGO Rock Band. Today, a press release confirms the game.
LEGO Rock Band is being developed by TT Games in a partnership with Harmonix and published by Warner Bros. Entertainment. The game is built (geddit?) around the theme: "Build a Band and Rock the Universe." The teen and tween geared game boasts some of these tunes: Blur's "Song 2", Carl Douglas' "Kung Fu Fighting", Europe's "The Final Countdown", Good Charlotte's "Boys and Girls" and Pink's "So What".

"We're thrilled to offer another LEGO branded gaming experience that will deliver humorous and social play for families and friends," said Henrik Taudorf Lorensen, Vice President, the LEGO Group. "LEGO Rock Band is built around the same values of imagination and family-friendly creative role play that is present in other LEGO videogames. It will deliver innovative new elements of game play that complement the fun of the Rock Band experience."
Things like LEGO chest hair.

The multi-platform title (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS) is slated for a Holiday 2009 and is compatible with Rock Band and "other music game" controllers.

New LEGO Rock Band Details Reveal Giant Robot Battles

By Michael McWhertor,

Yesterday's official announcement of LEGO Rock Band had just enough details to get the ball rolling on the teen and tween targeted band game. But it didn't reveal much about the giant robot battles.

The Xbox.com description of LEGO Rock Band—the Xbox 360 version, anyway—sheds a bit more light on what will separate the LEGO branded version from its forebears—with the exception of customizable LEGO brick minifigs, easier difficulty and exclusive-for-now tracks.

and the history from Wikipedia

Operation Ten-Go was a deliberate suicide attack against American forces off Okinawa by Yamato and nine escorts, beginning on 6 April 1945. Embarking from Kure, Yamato was to beach herself near Okinawa, and act as an unsinkable gun-emplacement—bombarding American forces on Okinawa with her 18.1-inch heavy-guns. Yamato carried only enough fuel to reach Okinawa, as the fuel stocks available were insufficient to provide enough fuel to reach Okinawa and return.[27] While navigating the Bungo Strait, Yamato and her escorts were spotted by the American submarines Threadfin and Hackleback, both of which notified Task Force 58 of Yamato's position.[1][5]

At 12:32 on 7 April 1945, Yamato was attacked by a first wave of 280 aircraft from Task Force 58, taking three hits (two bombs, one torpedo).[1] By 14:00, two of Yamato's escorts had been sunk.[5] Shortly afterwards, a second strike of 100 aircraft attacked Yamato and her remaining escorts. At 14:23, having taken 10 torpedo and 7 bomb hits, Yamato's forward ammunition magazines detonated.[5] The smoke from the explosion—over 4 miles (6.4 km) high—was seen 100 miles (160 km) away on Kyūshū.[28] 2,498 of the 2,700 crew members on Yamato were lost, including Vice Admiral Seiichi Itō, the fleet commander.[1]

No longer content to just have their notorious bricks serve as props, Lego are using their bricks for actual gadgets, including a digital camera, MP3 player, boombox, walkie-talkie and—my personal favorite-a stop motion video camera.

I remember spending countless hours playing Lucasarts' X-Wing in college, painfully defending these Rebel frigates against TIE Fighters. Then I got TIE Fighter, and enjoyed destroying them. I wouldn't have the heart to reduce to bricks the enormous Nebulon-B.

Lego Crawler Town Makes Having a Tiny Yellow Head Totally Worth It

By Kyle VanHemert

I've played with my fair share of LEGOs, but I never actually envied the little guys until I saw Dave DeGobbi's Crawler Town, a work as impressively conceived as it is constructed. I'd forfeit bendable elbows to live in it.

It sort of reminds me of those old books on a single building—Castles or Pyramids or what have you—where you could look at the huge, detailed illustrations and imagine dozens of little stories unfolding in every corner.

Giant Lego Tarantula Grosses Me Out

Look at this freaking giant tarantula made out of Lego. Builder Doctor Mobius used a gazillion billion levers (of all things!) to create its freaking hairs and gross me out enough to make me poop Lego bricks.
