Rice Football Owls run a similar offense to Colorado State with tall WR’s. Houston has the Defensive Tackle Ed Oliver the project overall #1 NFL draft pick and still Rice gave Houston all they handle until the 4th quarter. So the Hawaii Warrior players got to take Rice seriously and not buy into that 17 point favorite.

Rice is full of speedy players both on offense and defense. We need to be even more disciplined against Rice than Navy if that makes any sense. I'll take any win no matter how many points. A one point win is still a win.

I expect to see another offensive shootout. Rice has a pair of really good running backs and a transfer quarterback who can throw the coconut. They have that power back that can wear down a defense and he can really move. They also have a speedy running back actually times 2 because his brother is a runningback and they are twins. I would be disappointed if we don’t run up the score on these guys because our defense hasn’t really shown that they can win games. After watching Wyoming and San Diego St defenses we really need our defense to step it up.

When I dug into the details of the Houston game, I was surprised by what I saw. I thought Ed Oliver would eat their souls, but that offense actually did quite well vs. a strong Cougar defense.

Rice was a party spoiler for UH in 1999 and 2001. Warriors better stay focused or it'll happen again.
