Best QB in the history of UH football
Sorry for calling this early. But, I don’t believe I have the power to jinx things.
Cole McDonald will be the best QB in the history of the program.

Re: Best QB in the history of UH football
Wouldn't say he will be the best QB...maybe one of the best dual threat QB's...
Still early, CSU defense isn't that good, not much film on us in general. I'd wait a few more games at least until more schools get film on us.
If Cole performs like he did against CSU against better Defenses, especially Wyoming in October. He could definitely be one of the best.

Its way too early to make this kind of call. With that said, his performance tonight was outstanding for his first start. Nobody expected this from any of the competing quarterbacks. Who was the quarterback last year? Oh yeah, Drew Blanks or something, right?

Cole earned an A+ today.

I remember after the Hawaii bowl, people were saying dru brown for heisman. Cole did a great job against the rams. Still get plenty more games though so we’ll see.

McDonald made some really good decisions and accurate passes yesterday. But let's calm down before crowning him the GOAT of UH. I'll say this though, he does look pretty cool in the pocket like Brennan.

Whoever was saying this was so far from reality. It's closer to being real with the push by UCF for Milton for the Heisman but still not likely even though UCF went undefeated last year. Lot of praise for Cole but the offensive line really did a solid job.

Too early for me. Cole has no film on him for the other teams to study. I bet they didn't know he could run (no D1 film). I bet future teams will know and put a spy on him from time to time in given situations to throw him off.

In my book (in my era):
1. Brennan
2. Chang
3. Carter
4. Moniz
I do like what I see from McDonald. I like his dual-threat play. I don't think his arm is as strong as Brennan, Chang, or Moniz.
Far from the ugly duck passes of Gabriel, but I see his arm to be very similar to Drew Brown.

He's got a lot stronger arm than Brown I don't like his long motion and slow release. He is definitely a dual threat though.cabanalane wrote: ↑Mon Aug 27, 2018 6:20 am In my book (in my era):

We don't throw in Greg Tipton's name as one of UH's Great because the bar has been set so high now.
Prior to Cater, Greg Tipton can be consider as UH's GOAT QB. Let's give him some credit too. Tipton's success is (one of the reason) what got Tomey "the attention" which lead to an offer to coach Arizona.
Dick Tomey is still consider one of the best coaches in the PAC-10 (12) history, whatever it was back then.

calling anyone the of anything one game in is most likelihood going to turn out wrong. but you know what, if he ends up in a top-5 list, you _definitely_ have bragging rights on calling it waaaay earlier than anyone else.

Re: Best QB in the history of UH football
It's just nice to even be discussing McDonald as GOAT. When did UH football have this kind of excitement at the QB position, game 1 or not.
I think we can all agree that Colt Brennan is GOAT.
Short of BCS#1, it'll be almost impossible to top Brennan. What do you think it will take for any future UH QB to be consider GOAT? What must he and the team accomplished?
I think BCS is also "smart enough" not to place Hawaii in a position where they would be over-matched. Yes, it's football, but it's also entertainment.
