Coach Vinny and Colt Brennan

Post by EITSwarrior »

Coach Vinny deserves a lot of credit, which he has gotten deservingly, for developing many of the QBs that have come out Hawaii.

But I also believe Colt Brennan deserves a lot of credit for inspiring many of the recent run of Hawaii HS QBs. Many of them from Andrew Manley to Mariota to Tua to Sol-Jay were young kids when Colt was playing at UH and I’m sure they were inspired by Colt’s Heisman run and UH’s Sugar Bowl season.

Just thought I’d share

Colt also inspired some mainland guys too, like Drew Brown.

I think there is a change in Hawaii football. Before, local kids can only make it big in football (on the mainland) if they are big, strong, etc.

Now we are seeing how Hawaii, may be fertile ground for QBs. I think this is a great change in attitude. Being on the mainland, I constantly hear about how teams needed to recruit from CA and TX.

Now, they are eyeing Hawaii. And not just the big boys.

That good for local kids. (But I think bad for UH.) I think it's a harder sell to keep the top talents at home. And an easy sell for Ohio State or USC to take them away.

In the past, IMHO, the top tier local kids almost always went to the mainland for school, with a few exceptions. With more exposure, the second level kids now have more options and don't have to rely on UH to be their school of choice. I think that this has hurt UH the most.

I think Hawaii always had good talent at QB, our boys just weren't given the chance.
