Kicker needed?

Post by BigWave96744 »

If the Warriors add a kicker, it won’t be with a scholarship. They also want to see what Michael Boyle, who redshirted this past season, can do in expanded workouts.
http://www.hawaiiwarriorworld.com/footb ... ecruiting/

A JC or D1 Transfer Kicker who can kick 40 yards consistently should be welcomed with open arms and given a scholie.

We have 3 kickers on scholie:
1) was 1-4, with a long of 29
2) was 3-5 with a long of 38
Neither can launch kickoffs into the endzone
3) is unknown since he redshirted.

If #3 is indeed better than the first 2, why didn't he play? He suited up all season. Why redshirt him when the other 2 struggled, isn't the mantra "Play the best players available"

If we banged the kickoff into the end zone at Laramie, the dude wouldn't have returned it for a TD, we most likely win, and who know's what type of winning snowball would have followed.

Again 3 kickers are on scholie, yet former kickers Dan Kelly and Kenton Chun walked on and were Money.

And No I'm not taking keeping 4 on scholie and not talking having a stud kicker walkon. Do what the past 3 coaches have done with unused players. It's not pretty, but hey if I were making almost a half Mill, I would do anything to save my Arse

I would like to see a new kicker for sure. Chun may have been 4-4 on Fgs but his long was 38 yds. Nothing to write home about. and he missed three extra points. Not saying what we have is better but I wouldn't call him money. Kelly yes.

Kickers are almost never appreciated until you need one. With our ineptness of our offense and defense, a kicker/punter should be a priority.

Haha thanks for the facts, it's that bad that I would take local walkons Kenton Chun for FG&PAT and Kyle Niiro for kickoffs :) Oh forgot about Ceejay Santos and the Brent "The IceCube" Symonds :)

I'd like to see what Michael Boyle can do. At the very least, he has the leg to send kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks. There is too much of a risk of a breakdown in kick coverage to keep kicking to the goal line-sideline corner to try to stop the KR inside the 20. To me anyway.

Need punter too. A good punter can change the field position. We used wide receiver on kick coverage and defensive lineman on kick return. I scratched my head.
Not doubting, not hating, not loving, just hoping because I am a fan.

But if he were any good, he should have played in 2017, no? I would think the coaches are putting the best players on the field. Damn that kickoff breakdown in Wyoming game pretty much cursed the entire season

He was hurt earlier. Don't know if he's fully healthy.

So I guess Gary Dickman and Bobby Curran were correct in saying we have no backup kicker :o

According to the UH website Boyle is listed on the roster, but his bio states he received a medical hardship in 2018, doesn't that mean he medically retired? If that is the case why didn't we recruit another K? It's just crazy that we have no back up, especially knowing our K can't kick and what if he gets injured? this is just mind boggling #-o

https://hawaiiathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=18138
2018:

Appeared in four games before earning a medical hardship.
Started the first three contests as the kickoff specialist.
Averaged 56.0 yards on 27 kickoffs with eight touchbacks.
2018 Game-by-Game Statistics
Never mind I just looked up Medical Hardship and it just mean the player does not lose a year so it looks like we do have a backup, we should give him a chance at least to see what he can do.
Q. What is the definition of a medical hardship? What are the conditions that must occur in order to request a medical hardship? A. A medical hardship is defined as an incapacity resulting from an injury or illness that has occurred during practice or competition. A student-athlete will not be charged with the loss of that season of competition eligibility by the conference or the Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee if all the following criteria are met: 1. The incapacitating injury or illness occurs in one of the four seasons of intercollegiate competition at any two-year or four-year collegiate institution;2. The injury or illness occurs prior to the completion of the first half of the playing season that concludes with the NCAA championship in that sport and results in incapacity to compete for the remainder of that playing season; and3. The injury/illness occurs when the student-athlete has not participated in more than two contests or dates of competition, or 20% of the institution's completed contests or dates of competition in the student-athletes sport (whichever is greater.)

Exactly. But also, let's take away the 45 yard+ kicks. If we know the Kicker is not good at this distance, why set him up to fail?

If he is a B- Kicker, and not A+ caliber, play to his strength. I'm sure he felt like sh*t now, missing all those kicks.

Ok, UH lost the game. Take QB Cole McDonald for example. He is still confident in what he can do. CB, and JoJo still confident in what they can do. I'm not sure the Kicker feels the same.

So you see Byrd walking at Ala Moana Center. Every guy would say "Go get em Braddah.." When they see the Kicker, they would be thinking "Brah...that's the guy that missed the kicks."

Rolo need to punt, go for it on 4th, unless the ball is at the 20 something mark. Set him up to win. Not set him up to fail.
