Possible Adjustments for UH Football

#1 Post by wailukuwarriorfan » Tue Nov 21, 2017 10:17 am

Long term adjustments

Have a third party (Na Koa?) develop a political candidate poll to confirm candidate's support of UH Athletics. If they support UH Athletics, add them to a recommended list of candidates for UH boosters, football fans and Alumni to vote for during elections. This should make it easier to increase funding for the UH Athletic program over time with politicians that support UH Athletics.

Offer football season tickets to Pop Warner through high school football players at student discounts to develop UH Football game tradition and loyalty with the younger generation.

Assemble a Coaching staff that can keep Hawaii Blue Chip players home, Cal and Ron Lee on the coaching staff could be a start.

Develop a winning tradition starting with recruiting Hawaii Blue Chip players, keeping them home, playing in front of friends and family and developing pride in playing for the State of Hawaii.

Short term adjustments

Develop Juniors for Senior year leadership.
Develop QB's with leadership skills.
Develop QB depth, prepare Freshmen QB's for games.
Hire a QB Coach with QB experience.

Immediate adjustments

Keep Saint Louis commits committed. Build program around key playmakers. (Bringing the Lee's into the Coaching staff may help keep their commitments solid and help recruiting local players.

Return to a passing offense to bring excitement and fans back to Aloha Stadium.

Consider hiring Coaches that have had success coaching D1, with Hawaii ties to replace inexperienced Coaches on staff.
Ask for their help, they may want to return home.

Most of these suggestions sound good except that the State Legislature has no say in UH athletics and specific funding because many years ago, UH wanted autonomy in order to curtail the politics that infested UH affairs at that time. Every legislator wanted their stinky fingers in the pie. The only thing that can help is lobbyists who can obtain more funding for UH than what has transpired in the past, and then lobbying the UH Admin to provide a good portion of those additional funds over to sports.
