Question about attendance at games RE: numbers

#1 Post by shrek2 » Mon Nov 13, 2017 12:20 pm

I have a question regarding numbers regarding attendance at Aloha Stadium. The stats indicate 21357 for the Fresno State game attendance but 13714 for turnstile attendance. Does this mean that 8000 were season ticket holders who failed or did show up at the games? Or, are these the freebies that are let in because of being part of the broadcasting crew, band, teams, etc?

Good question. I wouldn't doubt that it is the season ticket holders who did not show - poor record, poor playing, and incredibly bad weather all contributes.

everything east of kalihi was drenched before the game. the windward side was probably raining heavily too. as i drove in i considered turning around but i was told the west side was relatively dry.

probably a lot of fans thought it would storm that night.

been a while since the last time i saw the stadium that empty. think it was an ilh soccer game.

Okay, so the real attendance is 13K not 21K? I guess there goes the football revenues.

21K was for paid tickets, 13K was for the butts in the seats.

Thanks Cats. I think some of that was loyal fans. I just wonder about the future of UH football with the declining attendance. Some of the 8000 might have been corporate sponsors I would think. Football used to be the big sport on campus at one time supporting all other athletic programs with Wahine volleyball being a distant second.

Back in the 1980's, I forget the date, UH played Prairie View A&M in the pouring rain at No-Aloha. I don't remember the attendance figure, but I was one of the few who braved (stupid?) the heavy showers that night and was totally soaked in the orange section. But in reference to UH vs. Fresno State last weekend, at least UH won that game, oh so long ago.

Shoots, I used to go to the games at Moilili where the rain poured all the time. Never had a problem. The games were more exciting then with Dave Holmes. UH played against Ahmad Rashad who was then Bobby Moore for Oregon State. I think a lot of kids have gained their inspiration to play football at a higher level because of watching UH football and hearing it on the news so good thing for all those kids that went on to play for schools on the mainland. Hope UH football stays alive for that reason.
