They were 45 point favorites. Hope they don't improve by the time we play them.

If Hawaii loses to UNLV then that would be shameful.

Predicting UNLV scores (against Hawaii?)

Post by shrek2 »

Hawaii has UNLV on the schedule as usual and I personally think they should forfeit. I think that UNLV should not be in the MWC. After week 2 of the football season:
1) UNLV favored over Howard by 45 and Howard wins by 3. I understand there was big money to win if you picked Howard to win, let alone took the points.
2) Idaho favored by 5.5 over UNLV, UNLV wins by 28. Kent State (?) beats Howard second week.
It goes back to last year when UNLV upset Wyoming by 3 points in triple overtime and loses to UNR by 35. Las Vegas nicknamed "Sin City" where anything goes. One can only wonder whether players are betting on games via a third party to augment their stipend. Las Vegas is not the greatest place to have a sports team. Its also the worst place for a college athlete to play football because I can just imagine how easy it is to want to make money fast through gambling and get some cheap thrills rather than work hard and you'll realize your dreams. I hope for Hawaii's sake UNLV is favored by 10 or more points over Hawaii.

I never pay attention to odds on a team winning outright but the payoff for the Howard win over UNLV was for $100 you'd get $55,000. Howard lost again this week to Richmond. If you're a kid really serious about football, pick another school.

UNLV has really never had a good football team and is a graveyard for coaches. But yet UH only has a 15 to 11 historical record against the Rebels, and have lost the past two games to UNLV. Very unpredictable to say the least.

UNLV has a pretty good quarterback in Rogers and together with their "potential NFL" wide receiver Devonte Boyd can do some damage to any team given the OL and DL participate. I just feel like the lure of the bright lights of Las Vegas corrupt young men let alone older, rich men. Especially when a kid grew up disadvantaged. Tony Sanchez, coach of UNLV since 2014, was the coach of Bishop Gorman who is a National Powerhouse football team that just beat De La Salle this past weekend. My hope is none of the MWC referees are from Las Vegas as they can affect the score as well. My point is that there are just too many gambling issues in regard to anyone from Las Vegas to participate in Sports without casting doubts as to their objectivity.

This game....
UNLV changes course, shocks Hawaii in home opener, 40-20
A week after the 2011 season appeared dead, Rebels shine on both sides of the ball in stunning blowout

By Ryan Greene
Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011 | 2 a.m.

A week after one of the most lopsided losses in program history, the Rebels flipped the script on a Hawaii team that was favored by nearly three touchdowns and pulled off a stunning 40-20 upset in their home opener at Sam Boyd Stadium.
It couldn't have possibly been more opposite from what played out a week ago in a 59-7 thumping at Washington State

This was a different time with different coaches and players but you still gotta wonder how come Hawaii was just one of two wins. And how come they lost to FCS Southern Utah 41-16 that same year they beat Hawaii. I'm just sayin'..... You gotta wonder. Just think, if you bet $10 on Howard, you would have made $5500. So, do the odds affect UNLV play or opposing team play or referee calls?

That was the beginning of a very bad season for Bryant Moniz. We made 2 out of 11 conversions on 3rd and 4th downs. Moniz gave up two fumbles and was sacked three times. Harding and Edwards also coughed up the ball. To make matters worse, we were 0/2 on field goal attempts.

All in all, we played all the other teams quite close with the exception of the season-ender against BYU.

I say we beat them this year. Go Warriors.

I wouldn't be surprised if it goes down to the last play of the game.
We are 0-4 in the last 5 trips to Vegas and 3-5 in the last 8 consecutive games.

Last 8 meetings looks like this, including some games bizarre endings
- '09 UNLV scored the game winning TD with 34 seconds left
- '13 UNLV kicks the game winning FG on the last play of the game
- '14 Woolsey to Kemp TD on the last play of the game
- '16 Dru Brown fumbles leads to UNLV kicking the game winning FG with 49 seconds left

Code: Select all

10/15/2016 Honolulu UNLV (4-8) 41 - 38 UH (7-7)
11/07/2015 Las Vegas UNLV (3-9) 41 - 21 UH (3-10)
11/22/2014 Honolulu UH (4-9) 37 - 35 UNLV (2-11)
10/12/2013 Las Vegas UNLV (7-6) 39 - 37 UH (1-11)
11/24/2012 Honolulu UH (3-9) 48 - 10 UNLV (2-11)
09/17/2011 Las Vegas UNLV (2-10) 40 - 20 UH (6-7)
12/04/2010 Honolulu UH (10-4) 59 - 21 UNLV (2-10)
09/19/2009 Las Vegas UNLV (5-7) 34 - 33 UH (6-7)

UNLV scares the beep out of me
They put up 40, 41 & 44 points while going 2-1 and 21 points vs Ohio St. They can definitely score.

This week they are ONLY 9.5 dogs to 5-0 SDSU
Something gives, why only 9.5?
Refs will control the outcome

Big Wave, I think its because SDSU played Northern Illinois so close. But you're right, UNLV is unpredictable and mostly because their "motivation" may not be there. I think too, after SDSU beat ASU and Stanford, they have been putting on the breaks, laying in wait for their tough opponents.
