My guess: Rather than a hail-Mary with the Warriors in prevent D (including 3 Warriors standing on the goal line) - I think UMass dumped a short pass hoping RB would get just enough yards then get out of bounds and try a long field goal to tie the game. Then try winning in OT.

I attended the game and was field side during last moments of the game. I was shocked that no passes were more then 10 yards during their last posession. UMASS seems disorganized. The last play had me worried bc there were 3 players at the goaline , but a 20 yard void with no one between DBs and players at GL, which was scary.

Poor clock management by UMASS. They should have spiked it when they converted that 4th down near mid field with 18 sec left. Instead they ran a play where the qb held on to the ball for too long that left them with only 5 sec left. At that point, I thought they should have attempted a Hail Mary too.

they ran a few plays before the end too into the middle I believe.
maybe they don't practice a 2 minute drill. looks like they might start having to.
and I'm glad they forgot about their TE that drive too.
oh well, good for us.

Coach Whipple must have had a brain fart. Good for us!

I initially thought they were going to set up a hook and ladder play but didn't see anyone following the receiver.

Guess there is more than one Chow out there. Last drive UMass looked lost and out of it. UH fans know the feeling when we had Norm.

Give credit to the three defensive linemen on the rush by Hawaii. Also, I think after three quarters, the safeties already picked up on the tight end's routes. UMass showed everything after three quarters. Credit to the defensive backs in their coverage. One thing I picked up early was the inability to stop the outside run. That's going to be crucial against San Diego.

Their last three plays were very curious.

Took last timeout at 0:23 with 4th and 4.
Run for 6 yards for a 1st down.
Threw a short incomplete pass.
Last play swing pass to RB.

The second to the last drive seemed like they played not to lose and didn't pick up the 1st down. The last drive was puzzling.

This is the reasoning for the final play of the game for UMass. It was an issue with getting the players to understand what was supposed to happen.

"The game ended on a whimper as UMass has a chance to try a Hail Mary, but instead opted for a broken screen play that was supposed to be a series of laterals according to head coach Mark Whipple"
