Tsai's Pre-Fall Camp Notes....

Post by kapakahi »

http://hawaiiwarriorworld.com/football/ ... amp-notes/
• The Warriors report on Wednesday. The first practice is Thursday, beginning at 6:30 a.m. These are the practices that will be open to the general public:
> Thursday, July 27, 6:30 a.m.
> Friday, July 28, 6:30 a.m.
> Saturday, July 29, 6:30 a.m.
> Monday, July 31, 6:30 a.m.
> Tuesday, Aug. 1, 6:30 a.m.
> Wednesday, Aug. 2, 6:30 a.m.
> Thursday, Aug. 3, 6:30 a.m.
> Friday, Aug. 4, 6:30 a.m.
> Saturday, Aug. 5, 6:30 a.m.
Notable changes to roster:
> Slotback Nic Tom is retiring from football because of a recurring hip injury.
> Offensive lineman Josh Hauani‘o will medically retire.
> Cornerback Kayson Smith-Bejgrowicz will focus on engineering studies this semester and rejoin the Warriors next year.
> Offensive tackle Austin Webb will not play this season while recovering from a leg infection.
> Running back Mel Davis is not expected to play this season while recovering from a knee injury.
> Offensive lineman Elijah Tupai, who is in good academic standing, decided to forgo his senior season to take care of family matters.
> Tight end Sione Kauhi is no longer on the team.
> Offensive tackle Kingjames Taylor is no longer on the team
> Defensive tackle Ka‘aumoana Gifford is suspended for this season.
> Defensive end Jamie Tago was dismissed from the team.
Losing 4 scholie OL (Taylor, Tupai, Hauani’o, Webb) leaves only 12 scholie OL entering Fall Camp.

OL will definitely be a top recruiting priority for the Class of 2018……since 4 more scholie OL (Allen, Wa’a, Norman, Posa) will be done after this coming season. Hopefully can land the top local Class of 2018 HS OL (Uluave, Veikoso, Hatchie).

DE will also be a top recruiting priority for the Class of 2018…….with Tago dismissed……and Meffy & Manoa done after this coming season. Hopefully can land the top local Class of 2018 HS DE (Emmsley, Welch).

Anyone have information on why Sione Kauhi is no longer on the team? Grades? Sounds like he had a good Spring.

This one is a surprise. Many times I hear things but can't talk about it. I didn't hear anything about this.

Really affects our depth at TE. We only have four of them and one is a walk on FR. Maybe we'll use more two slots two wideouts this year.

Also, whatever happened to Eperone Moananu. He started when he was a freshman, didn't play his sophmore year nor on the depth chart and now he's not on the depth chart? He was touted to be the strongest defensive/offensive lineman during his freshman year. Attitude?

He was a backup O-lineman and D-lineman who played in all 2015 games. From his UH bio:
2015 (Freshman): Appeared in all 13 games as a reserve offensive lineman, as well appearances on defense and special teams...filled defensive line needs leading up to the Nevada (Oct. 24) game, switching to nose tackle for the final six games...defensively, made four total tackles, with a season-high of two at Nevada...named to the academic all-MW team.

Wonder if he was on the FG and PAT protect units.

His bio says that he redshirted in 2016: http://hawaiiathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=16828

He's probably chomping at the bit to play this season.

Per Rolo's radio interview on BC's morning show, good to hear that OL and DL are Rolo's top recruiting priorities for the Class of 2018. Rolo also mentioned that will probably target an OL and DL from the JC ranks for the Class of 2018 signing class.
