Live Stream: Month 1 Complete; Call/Email Lawmakers in HI and DC

I think I first started lurking on SportsHawaii back in 2007. This site is for true, die hard fans. I'm asking for your help, because this year might be a repeat of last year's live streaming ban disaster. There is not much time, say by the summer to get this resolved. Please sign the petition. Please pass along to friends and family to sign. Looking to pressure our lawmakers. Tell them, our flagship university's football program is getting the shaft. Our cable provider is taking a longstanding relationship and throwing it into the gutter. Why? For money?

Us SportsHawaii fans have long memories. Does Charter/Oceanic want to go down as the villain? If so, what will be their consequences. Read some of the comments on the petition, it's touching. Truly a call for help.

Mahalo guys. Had a big surge in signers and comments this past week.

Now to somehow spread awareness to casual fans attending the Spring sports (baseball, softball, men's volleyball, etc). Need some locally based fans to explain to fellow fans that if Oceanic/Charter starves the Mainland of viewing access that will cause major harm. Need signs, need people who care.

HUGE SURGE THIS WEEK; RALLY PLANNED

Mahalo for spreading the word and posting your passionate comments. Goes to show, we are not alone in both our love for our UH football program and belief that this Live Stream ban is will be devastating.

We are ready to start the next phase of the protest. We need to build a coalition of fans of all UH sports to get behind the movement. We will need leadership from alumni, player families, hard core fans. Rallies will be focused on Oahu and expand from UH sports events to the front door of Oceanic Cable Offices on Ward Avenue, if we must.

The first rally is being planned for:

Saturday, April 15th
UH Men's Volleyball Playoff Match
Stan Sheriff Arena
Time TBD

We will need the help of our local Oahu supporters. Please message me if you can help with organizing. There is less than 5 months until Kickoff. Time is of the essence. Go Warriors! Please message me if you can help with organizing. Mahalo.

"LIVE ALOHA, STREAM WARRIORS!" Rally before Saturday's Men's Volleyball game. Please bring your signs and voices starting 6pm (hour before 7pm game) to Stan Sheriff Arena on Saturday, April 15th. We must do all we can to ensure Live Streaming of UH sports to places outside Hawaii. As of now, for the 2017 season, Oceanic Cable/Charter is not going to Live Stream UH football to the Mainland/International where the majority of our student athletes are from. Please support and if you have time, read the passionate comments of UH fans and player families worldwide why this is important. Recruiting, national exposure, alumni connections, and more! Mahalo.

Re: UHLiveStream: AD Matlin's update on ESPN 1420

Last night on ESPN 1420 Honolulu radio, AD Dave Matlin answered our questions about Live Streaming outside Hawaii. Here is a recap:

- the topic was a big one during his Mountain West Conference call today (I infer because opponents' fans are also blocked from watching the game)
- he is "cautiously optimistic" that a technological solution will be available that offsets geoblocking prior to season (we heard this last year though)
- Oceanic/Charter is trying to protect their investment and this is a contractual issue; note Hawaii gets $2.3MM from the Oceanic contract, while other conference members split the conference media payout and get $1.1MM
- the solution would be a "win-win" for Oceanic/Charter and UH if they can get there
- Bobby Curran (radio host) follows up about potential for paid Live Stream, and Matlin says that a PPV stream is a potential option

Stay tuned and even if there is a good chance for streaming, doesn't mean we can relax because last year (2016) everyone was optimistic about a solution and there was none.

Are we the only school in the country that makes their fans pay ridiculous fees to watch a road game?

I don't know but there should be a ranking of most expensive programs to follow via tv.

Imagine if everyone in hawaii could have watched live UH beating on the road Air Force and Fresno State in dramatic fashion. There would be a buzz like no other. Road game telecasts should be more accessible because they might help you sell tix for home games.

Hi SportsHawaii Team,

So far we have over 300 signatures from UH fans in Hawaii and places like California, Florida, Arizona, Texas, Alabama, Australia, South Korea and more. Today marks the 1st month of our petition to raise awareness and pressure to get Live Streaming of UH football games for the Fall 2017 season. Could you please write to your government official about the need to get UH football more accessible to fans living on the Mainland and abroad?

CONGRESS: We found that calling/writing to Hawaii's Congressfolks that they can make inquiries directly to Charter-Spectrum's Washington DC lobbying office. We think that is a good way to get more influence on executive decisions.

HAWAII LOCAL GOV'T: We found that calling/writing to state lawmakers is a good way to pressure on the local level and also advocate for more support for UH athletics.

Nice endorsement from Coach Rolo this past week regarding the petition. Please sign up if you haven't already. Yourself, your friends, and even your dog. And write to your politicians (your district, your state gov, your members of congress, write a scathing opinion letter to the SA). Thank them for the HTA money and then say get this Live Streaming resolved! Us UH fans need to get more vocal. We as the adults need to step up, so the kids can concentrate on being students and athletes.

"This is important to our fans, players' families, and recruits. Not to mention the exposure our program and University need." - Coach
