2017 Recruiting Class 23 (13 3-Stars):
No local recruits signed with the Warriors; however, the Warrior’s signed four players with local ties, in Kalepo Naotala (Pisa Tinoisamoa’s nephew), Manu Hudson-Rasmussen (cousin to former Warrior’ Kory Rasmussen), Drake Stallworth (coached by former UH QB David Graves) and Kade Greeley (Part-Hawaiian, sister Kalei is a PrepVolleyball Top-100 Senior ace and starting all-rotation OH for the Wahine, until she injured her shoulder during the 2015 NCAA tournament).
Also Polys from the mainland and Samoa who will suit up for the Warriors: Hekili Keliiliki, Josaiah Maama, Blessman Ta’ala, Jamie Tago, Anthony Mermea, and Penei Stowers-Pavihi.
Bottom line, perennially 90% of the top 15/20 (100% for the 2017 recruiting class) have and will always leave the islands to play for BCS programs with dreams of being the next Manti Teo, Buckner, or Mariotta. Nothing wrong with having those dreams; but, only a few will be in a starting role--99.9% will not make it to the NFL—and when they come back to the islands seeking employment, humbug if the job interviewer remembers him.
This coming season, there will be eight players on the roster — 8.2 percent of the scholarship players — who attended high schools in American Samoa. Scheyenne Sanitoa, Eperone Moananu, Alesana Sunia, Viane Moala and Kiko Faalologo are graduates of American Samoa high schools. Jeremiah Pritchard attended Leone High before graduating from Silverado High in Las Vegas. Center Asotui Eli and Pumba Williams lived in American Samoa before moving to Hawaii. - See more at: http://samoanews.com/sports/univ-hawaii ... z43wf.dpuf

Irse,

I believe the Warriors had one more scholarship to give, which equals my count of 84 scholarship. However with the addition of Gouveia and Falemalu, that makes 86 players on scholarship.
With scholarships on a year-to-year basis, which two athletes, on my count, are not on scholarship?

Gouveia and Falemalu are on scholarships
Irse,

I believe the Warriors had one more scholarship to give, which equals my count of 84 scholarship. However with the addition of Gouveia and Falemalu, that makes 86 players on scholarship.
With scholarships on a year-to-year basis, which two athletes, on my count, are not on scholarship?
I'm not sure who might have been taken off of scholarship but at one time Falemalu was on scholarship when he signed out of high school. Gouveia signed a scholarship agreement.
Dalton Gouveia — the son of Polynesian Football Hall of Fame member Kurt Gouveia — officially joins the Warriors today.

Dalton Gouveia is a recent graduate of Charlotte Christian High in North Carolina. He arrived in Honolulu on Saturday, attended an orientation yesterday, and begins the bridge program today. (The bridge is two summer classes that run up to the start of training camp in August.)

Dalton Gouveia said he is 6 feet 1 and 230 pounds. He projects to compete at inside linebacker. His father, Kurt Gouveia, coaches UH’s outside linebackers.

Dalton Gouveia is expected to sign his scholarship agreement this week.

Tuiasoa was put on scholarship in August of 2016. I don't know if it will extend to the 2017 season.
Hawaii football: Walk-on surprised with scholarship at Sydney zoo

Hawaii has a couple more days until the team kicks off the college football season against California in Sydney, Australia, but it's already been a memorable trip for the Rainbow Warriors' Ryan Tuiasoa.

The redshirt junior running back, who came to the program as a walk-on, was surprised with a scholarship during the team's visit to Taronga Zoo in Sydney.

Right after getting up close and personal with one of the zoo's koalas and posing for a picture, Tuiasoa was handed a piece of paper by one of the facility's workers. Caught off guard, Tuiasoa read the paper out loud as his teammates and him celebrated the scholarship announcement.

Making the moment even more special, the video shows Tuiasoa telling his family, who was on hand, the news as they shared hugs.

That's one way to get a little extra motivation heading into the new season.

Patterson and Tullis are being switched back and forth between WR and SB. The coaches are either trying to see what is a better fit or are trying to develop depth. We'll need to wait to see how it works out.
