Score a big win for head coach Nick Rolovich and the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors staff. On Sunday, Jan. 29, Hawaii publically notched an under the radar recruiting gem in 2017 running back Miles Reed snagging one of the biggest steals ahead of National Signing Day.
Reed had an explosive senior season crushing the in-state California competition and the out-of-state powers that treaded into the Inland Empire. The 5-8, 185 pound, speed and power back rushed for 2,198 yards off 268 carries with 34 trips to the end zone. The all-purpose back also hauled in nine passes for 163 yards helping Centennial High School (Corona) finish the 2016 as a MaxPrep’s Top 10 team in the nation with an 11-2 record.
Interest was coming in from all over the country but Reed had narrowed down his list of potential schools to Washington State, Montana, and Hawaii. When Reed’s announcement video went out Sunday night, not only did they get a potential immediate impact player on their roster, but also scored a true student-athlete that carries a 3.5 GPA and scored a 1020 on his SAT.
In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with Reed to get the inside scoop on how Hawaii landed his verbal commitment.
This guy is dynamic...I have watched a few of his games on TV.
I could see him playing a Marshall Faulk like game (sorry not saying he is MF - who is one of the greatest CFB players of all time). He would be trouble in stretch run plays, screens, wheel routes, playing WR, KR, PR, etc. and would make DC's in the MWC stay up late at night game planning for him.
Be humble and confident in yourself and all things you do.
He will bring a different gear to the offense. Remids me of my childhood friend from Palolo, Joe Igber....minus the jumpcuts of course. Great undersized guy whos stronger than he looks, great vision, presses the hole and will take it outside if needed. Third down back for sure as a Frosh...perhaps KR, PR or Slot...just to get him on field.
Be humble and confident in yourself and all things you do.
Looking at his highlights shows while he may be small he's also a tough player to bring down, he's also shown to be quite quick and has the vision to find holes. Will likely see some playing time if not his first season, definitely the following year. Holly and him probably going be the new generation of Harris and DSJ. Beat out Washington State for him is always a good thing.
