Russel Williams Jr.
I thought did a great job on defense last night..Did he work his way up the depth chart? He was in on alot of plays, was always around the ball
Re: Russel Williams Jr.
Agreed. He did seem to be in most of the game and he led the defense with 8 solo and 4 assisted tackles, 12 total.

I was thinking the same. He was a beast.
Along with Mageo, Henderson, and Santiago, are playmakers!!

Coach Lempa and his assistants should get the credit for getting these guys to play the way they should. His scheme frustrated Nevada. And his players tackled a lot better. They still need work but I saw a huge improvement in how they are playing. They also seemed to be more focussed.

Williams started at Will in the Cal and Michigan games. He was in the rotation at LB for the UT-Martin and Arizona game before starting in the Nevada game. We're deep at LB and with Garcia Williams being used as a rush DE for the Nevada game, Williams was back starting.

Re: Russel Williams Jr.
I enjoyed the fact that they moved him into the starting line up and used Garcia-Williams as a pass rusher. I also thought Moana, Mageo and Kolomatangi were impressive. They were moving people around and making plays. Butler's move into the starting line up (with his speed), gives Henderson more freedom to move up and make tackles.

Side note:
In addition to Williams and the other Warriors mentioned - here's a few impressive plays I noticed:
1. Paul Harris block as Ursua scored a running TD.
2. Okeke on kick-off coverage. I saw him run down and blow up a blocker, then continued on to tackle to the ball-carrier.
3. Unga, and other TEs blocking - fierce.

Great Observations!

One of my favorite plays was in the second quarter. Nevada quarterback looking to pass the ball coming from one side is Russell. Coming from the other side is Korey. They meet at the quarterback and Russell goes flying backwards. Quarterback sandwich.

Yeah, as Rolo said, the light bulb went on for the D in the Nevada game. Hope it continues. I like Garcia-Williams as a rush-end

Credit has to be given to Kory Rasmussen for putting the stops on the line of scrimmage. Heard his named called as making a couple of quarterback hurries so he got into the backfield in the San Jose State game.
Re: Russel Williams Jr.
shrek2 - I totally agree. Kory and the Dline has really stepped up after many (including myself) said they were the weak link. I hope big Viane Moala, 6-foot-7 freshman, continues to learn quickly.

One of the reasons Rogers got an int was because Korey was in face of the quarterback.shrek2 wrote:Credit has to be given to Kory Rasmussen for putting the stops on the line of scrimmage.
