These brothers got some great genes.

Justus (left) and Jonah (right) Tavai lead the Mustangs’ defense this season. They have three older brothers who played for Mira Costa.

J.R. is the most successful of the brothers. He played from 2008-10 and was the CIF Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010. He finished up his career with USC last year. Morrow and several friends went to see him play against Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl in San Diego Dec. 28. USC won 45-42 and Tavai played the whole game. He was not drafted, but signed on with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent and is doing well in camp.

But it was Jordan who started it all when he played on the varsity from 2008-10 and was a starter all three years. He went on to play junior college football at El Camino and finished playing NCAA Division I football at Kansas.
Jahlani was All-CIF when he played in 2012-13 at nose guard like J.R. and also was a tight end.
He signed with the University of Hawaii and red-shirted his first season. He is a defensive end and outside linebacker with the Rainbow Warriors.

Also, there is still one more Tavai looking to play varsity at Mira Costa. Little brother Jaggar, who is 10, plans to wear green and gold in a few years.
