if we need to win games, i dont see how going with an offense that isnt consistently good just so we can take on all the Hawaii D2 prospects is a good plan.

Look, lets just be real. most Hawaii players are NOT D1 level, offense regardless.
change that purple dragon.
I thought we were having a reasonable discussion, but it looks like someone's a little salty.

Care to make a rebuttal to argue why we should even bother going after these undersized prospects? like, even IF we went wishbone (which we wont), why lower our recruiting expectations? why not keep going after legit D1 talent? That's the thing here that you've suggested that makes the least sense. Its like you're doing anything you can to justify having more hawaii kids on the team even if they dont deserve a spot.

nd for the record, it's blue, and no, i will not change it, least of all for someone who barely posts.

But I would like to mix passing and the shotgun with the triple option to get more of a passing game.
Rice is a pretty good example. Run the triple option out of the shotgun or pistol, have a QB that can throw and run, and run in a spread formation and you have an offense like Oregon or Ohio State, but on a smaller scale. Something like the Carolina Panthers.
2011 Troy Calhoun 7–6 3–4 L Military
2012 Troy Calhoun 6–7 5–3 L Armed Forces
2013 Troy Calhoun 2–10 0–8
2014 Troy Calhoun 10–3 5–3 W Famous Idaho Potato Bowl

there's nothing "consistently good" about that.

as mentioned, navy's the most consistent, but even they have their ups and downs, and you cant ignore army.

2011 Rich Ellerson 3–9
2012 Rich Ellerson 2–10
2013 Rich Ellerson 3–9
2014 Jeff Monken 4-7

that's consistently bad.

the offense isnt special. navy is better because they're a better program, not because the offense is some secret weapon. there's nothing here that suggests to me that there's anything to gain.

Why even make the thread if you're just going to be salty when others dont share your views?

I definitely dont see Kenny leaving the most secure coaching job in the nation, and i definitely dont see us going even more run heavy as an offense after 4+ years of Chow pledging to bring the run game back.

With Matlin as AD, it makes more sense that he'd find a more modern offense after spending years doing the Hawaii Bowl, which always featured more modern attacks.

but is that YOUR goal for the team?

further, since we havent been in it, the Hawaii bowl's goal is ratings. and offense gets ratings. hence, modern offenses.

how would you know? we havent had a modern offense since 2011.

care to remind me how that modern offense did? Oh yeah, it took a passable QB and took hawaii into the top 25, and took a great QB and made him a household name.

Might as well play FCS instead of FBS if we don't want NFL caliber players.
fbs is better,why change?
you missed his point.

If this isn't consistent, than I don't know what is:

NAVY SINCE 2003
2003 Paul Johnson 8–5
2004 Paul Johnson 10–2
2005 Paul Johnson 8–4
2006 Paul Johnson 9–4
2007 Paul Johnson/Ken Niumatalolo 8–5
2008 Ken Niumatalolo 8–5
2009 Ken Niumatalolo 10–4
2010 Ken Niumatalolo 9–4
2011 Ken Niumatalolo 5–7
2012 Ken Niumatalolo 8–5
2013 Ken Niumatalolo 9–4
2014 Ken Niumatalolo 8-5

AIR FORCE SINCE 2003
2003 Fisher DeBerry 7–5 3–4
2004 Fisher DeBerry 5–6 3–4
2005 Fisher DeBerry 4–7 3–5
2006 Fisher DeBerry 4–8 3–4
2007 Troy Calhoun 9–4 6–2
2008 Troy Calhoun 8–5 5–3
2009 Troy Calhoun 8–5 5–3
2010 Troy Calhoun 9– 4 5–3
2011 Troy Calhoun 7–6 3–4
2012 Troy Calhoun 6–7 5–3
2013 Troy Calhoun 2–10 0–8
2014 Troy Calhoun 10–3 5–3

GEORGIA TECH SINCE 2008
2008 Georgia Tech 9 4 0
2009 Georgia Tech. 11. 3 0
2010 Georgia Tech 6 7 0
2011 Georgia Tech 8 5 0
2012 Georgia Tech 7 7 0
2013 Georgia Tech 7 6 0
2014 Georgia Tech 11 3 0

Not saying the the T.O. is end all to be all, like some say the RnS is. But the TO is a good offense to base your program on as long as you got the staff to believe what they run, just like JJ did with his offense.

Isn't Kenny N. making really big bucks at Navy? Even if he wants to come home to coach at UH, how much of a pay cut do you think he would accept? UH not going to pay much.
