Re: 2015 Predictions: Win Total
You crack me up when you keep going back to that. Mack would be 4 years older than how old he was when he got fired, and he was already struggling to hold it together back then. sure, maybe we could have stayed in the middle of the pack for another year or two if they kept him on, but that's only if his assistant coaches didn't bail on him (and they were ready to jump ship) and if you can recruit players without being able to do things like remember their names. And that's not even counting all the awkward interviews, potential for inappropriate comments, double timeouts (and maybe triple timeouts), and all the other fun stuff that would have come along with a near 70-year old Mack (who was also making over $1 million a season).madeinhawaii wrote:Then we should have kept Mack.amela wrote:I believe 6 wins would be an accomplishment.

Why do you say Rolovich was ready to bail?poidog wrote:You crack me up when you keep going back to that. I gotta add that Dave Aranda and Rich Miano were definitely not set to bail.UnBiasFan wrote:Why do you say Rolovich was ready to bail?poidog wrote:You crack me up when you keep going back to that. During our 6-game win years under McMackin we were solid. We lost close games to good teams. We also could regularly count on beating tough teams on the road. Shoot, we haven't won a single road game in the past three years.
In Mack's Championship year we were tops in many categories, both offensive and defensive. Now we are at the bottom of all categories.
You make fun of Mack's calling back to back time-outs, but that stunt worked. We won that game. We also had far fewer penalties in any year that Mack was coaching. All around, Mack was solid so I have no idea what you're ranting about.
In regard to his salary, Mack was an honorable guy. I'm sure he would've compromised on his salary. He did in fact do this when he was asked to leave. I doubt seriously that Norm Chow would do the same.

Poidog, all I'm saying is that IF SIX wins IS and accomplisment. Then we should have kept Mack, since he too had SIX wins in his last season.poidog wrote:You crack me up when you keep going back to that. Mack was also paid $600K more than Chow.
1.1 Million $ coach is expected to win more than 6 wins, no?

Re: 2015 Predictions: Win Total
Chow has cost the UH football program a lot more than that differential. And it's all besides the point as I was responding to the statement that "6 wins is an accomplishment."BigWave96744 wrote:Mack was also paid $600K more than Chow.

Mac also took us to two bowl games and a WAC championship. Chow's record after 3 years is 8-29. Mac's was 25-16.BigWave96744 wrote:Mack was also paid $600K more than Chow.

Norm is paid $700k so 1,100 - 700 = $400k. How do you get $600k outta that?

Re: 2015 Predictions: Win Total
Huh...the coaches hot seat has Chow at $700k. Your buzjournals link has him at $620,500. I know June Jones was only paid $400k but it was also matched by private donors for a total of $800k. I wonder if Norm has some similar hidden compensation?BigWave96744 wrote:1,120,000 - 550,000 = 570,000 (~ 600K)SundayJam wrote: Mac also took us to two bowl games and a WAC championship. I fully enjoyed every one of McMackin's seasons. With Rolovich and Aranda together with McMackin for one more season, I have no doubt we would've done much better than the succeeding...Blah.
Hawaii made a number of bad decisions regarding its football program, but hiring Greg McMackin was not one of them.
I stand by my prediction of a one win season.

Wow, you really pessimistic.SundayJam wrote:

I predicting two wins.
I am the one who knocks.
Re: 2015 Predictions: Win Total
Sorry, but firing Coach Mac got us where we are today. We lost our national R&S identity and at some point either Aranda, Rolo or Miano would have continued the tradition.madeinhawaii wrote:Chow has cost the UH football program a lot more than that differential. Well at least we all know you will both be dead wrong. So much for your credibility regarding this team.808Hawaii wrote:Wow, you really pessimistic.SundayJam wrote:

You're an interesting study, there, Duke.TheDuke wrote:

We'll see. I hope I'm wrong in my 1 win prediction.TheDuke wrote: Well at least we all know you will both be dead wrong. So much for your credibility regarding this team.
