UH Signs NT Samiuela Akoteu, 6-2, 320 lb.

Post by uhwarriors »

Originally signed with Fresno. Had offers from Washington State, Utah and Houston.
The University of Hawaii football team filled a big need in a big way, securing a commitment from a 6-foot-2, 320-pound nose tackle.

Samiuela Akoteu said he travels to Honolulu on Sunday afternoon and begins summer-school classes on Monday.

"I'm excited," Akoteu said.

Penitito Faalologo and Kory Rasmussen exited spring training as the top two nose tackles for the Warriors' 3-4 defense. Defensive end Kennedy Tulimasealii can slide to the nose in sub-packages. Akoteu is projected to provide immediate help for the Rainbow Warriors, who do not have a bye during their 13-game regular season this fall.

As a Junipero Serra High (Gardena, Calif.) senior, Akoteu signed a letter of intent with Fresno State on Feb. 5, 2014.

one year maturing while facing family adversity, working hard labor every day staying in shape, playing rugby to stay athletic. i'd say he's going to be a big factor this season right away. and a full 5 to play 4.

This is just what UH needs on its D-line, 0-tech that can be a cog in the A-gaps. Rasmussen at LE and KT at RE, done deal. :)

I love the idea that he wants to clog up the lanes, plays with an attitude and doesnt need the spotlight, which are good traits for a NT in the 3-4 scheme.
Be humble and confident in yourself and all things you do. :zook:

Like I've said before, I think it would depend on what his playing weight will be, you can't two-gap at 260 pounds he would get eaten up. But a motor like Shawley's would be best utilized as a Will-OLB and I'd rather see him there.
