BLAH BLAH BLAH...JJ did this, JJ did that, Sugar Bowl this, record setting that...all past tense and it was a lot of fun for all of us! JJ had his time from 1999 to 2007 (respectable winning record)...run and shoot offense, good QB's, opportunistic defenses, good special teams play...the early 2000's! Ahhhhh, those were the days!
Then JJ leaves, says its only way things will change for the better!?!?!? Really, you leaving will cause change for the betterment of the program? Hmmmmmmmm, still waiting...8 years later! All I saw was JJ leaving for more $ (because he DID deserved it!) and helped a program become relevant again. That's cool, but where are they now? Oh, but they still got lots of $ to throw around...not us, we looking for cheap labor (and seem to be proud of it with some of the comments stated above) but we want maximum results!?!?!?
If we think that this one person is the ONLY person to change this program...we are in BIG trouble! There are lots of people capable of turning this around...let's just stop thinking the football coach is the ONE. This football program is MUCH bigger than JJ (or what he did from 1999-2007).
As long as we don't lose Chris Naeole...
Re: As long as we don't lose Chris Naeole...
Did JJ give any explanation why he left after blowout losses to Baylor (45-0) and North Texas (43-6) to open last season? THAT is the most important question-JJ may have brought them back up but he left the program the way it began.
Call me crazy but I think Hawaii will have a good year this year with Wittek at QB-if he were eligible last year Hawaii would have won at least 7 games and went to the Hawaii Bowl. They would have beaten UW, probably beat Oregon State and Colorado also not to mention Rice and San Diego State. We were just a QB away from being a good team. Even JJ stated on Leahey & Leahey, Chow can't win without a QB.

Correction...at least one person with a PROVEN track record.hawaiian wrote:BLAH BLAH BLAH...JJ did this, JJ did that, Sugar Bowl this, record setting that...all past tense and it was a lot of fun for all of us! JJ left bc of politics on campus, which he could not change. If you are building something and don't have the financial backing, you are only dreaming.

If Witek performed as advertised we would have won more games.

June Jones did build the program and McMackin made it even better. Had the suits let the staff of Rolovich and Aranda et al transition, I have no doubt we'd still be relevant. Say what you want about some 50/50 seasons, but we led defensive and offensive categories nationally and won a WAC championship. Now it's 4 years later and we're praying for a break-even season. We don't even have a single hallmark victory in the last 3 years.
It's truly sad how far we've fallen.

That's what happens when non-sports ppl make sports related hires and ppl with deep pockets tip the scales for their favored hire.SundayJam wrote:June Jones did build the program and McMackin made it even better.
