In a massive turn of events on NLI Day, Hawaii lost Ben Northrup to rival Fresno State. However, Hawaii managed to get J. R. Finally someone else seeing the bright side. Seems like a good get, his recruitment picked up late and if signing day had been in, say, March, we may not have gotten him.

How many were scholarships? A&M was as a preferred walk on.

Every other site is saying he had no other offers other than UH.

(Which doesn't mean he isn't a steal)

I'd gladly take a young man into the UH program who was also a preferred walk-on candidate for A&M.

Stuck in the middle of the Pacific (2,500 miles from California), Hawaii will always have a hard time getting a 4 or 5 star athlete to sign on.

Hawaii's hope is to get a few 3 stars preprs, highly rated transfers (JUCO and BCS programs), and athletes, who isn't on anyone's radar, i.e. Lelie, Owens, Miano.

Doesn't matter what other offers or stars they have, once they step onto campus it's all about their mindset. That's why 2* get drafted and 4*/5* guys bust.
