It'll take a while. The C&C and State have buildings there. Family Court is there. Box stores opened up - Costco, Walmart, Home Depot, K-Mart, etc. The private companies are taking a while to open up but there's Sushi Bay. And there's finally two McDonald's.EITSwarrior wrote:I dunno. The urban planners here in Hawaii are no geniusis either. Just look at Kapolei. Is it supposed to be the "Second City" of Oahu, which it originally was supposed to be or is it just a new suburb, which it looks to be at the moment?808Hawaii wrote:First time I heard someone say JJ said that, I thought to myself, I'm glad JJ and some urban planner will not suddenly switch jobs.EITSwarrior wrote:Never got the impression that JJ wanted an Ala Wai Stadium. He championed the idea for a while...he had many forward think ideas...probably to advanced for the slow legislature and "Hawaii business" ppl.EITSwarrior wrote:Never got the impression that JJ wanted an Ala Wai Stadium. Re: The Chinese Conspiracy
Sounds more like another Kaneohe than another Downtown Honolulu. I'm optimistic that they'll get it done correctly, but I see what vacant land there is left quickly being built on with more single family housing and now a new shopping center. Kapolei needs more of an urban core to bring in more companies. But with land quickly being gobbled up, what is left will be more expensive and will deter companies away.

Kapolei is rapidly growing. In the eleven years since I've moved into the region, I've seen lots of changes in Kapolei. I know there are lots more plans for Kapolei still to come.

Get three Starbucks in Kapolei, one more in Ko Olina, officially part of Kapolei. Only get two Starbucks in Mililani. Lots more businesses and expansion to come in Kapolei.

Re: The Chinese Conspiracy
Only three Starbucks in all of Kapolei? I take all that back. Kapolei isn't anywhere near being a city. Only three . . . . SMH

Re: The Chinese Conspiracy
Get that new huge shopping center complex soon to be developed in East Kapolei. Almost guarans going get another Starbucks there. And remember, with Ko Olina already get four in Kapolei.

To me, Ko'Olina is not part of Kapolei because you can't even walk there.

Hey just watch. Someday Kapolei Parkway will connect with Ko Olina. Otherwise if you want to today, you can walk along the old train tracks to get there!808Hawaii wrote:To me, Ko'Olina is not part of Kapolei because you can't even walk there.

Yeah, I see on Google Maps how it would make sense to extend Kapolei Parkway to Ko'Olina. Looks like less than a mile. But maybe Ko'Olina doesn't want the added traffic.My3Cats wrote:Hey just watch. Ah, the price of exclusivity right now. One way in, one way out. And people who live there have to go all the way west bound to get on the freeway and vice versa on the way back into their enclave. But it keeps out the riff-raff and rabble-rousers from Kapolei with the guardians at the gate to keep the barbarians out.808Hawaii wrote:Yeah, I see on Google Maps how it would make sense to extend Kapolei Parkway to Ko'Olina. I think the problem with UH sports is that they don't have enough players from Punahou.
