Las Vegas Bowl Can, Hawaii Bowl No Can
Mathematically IF, and it's a huge IF,
- Hawaii wins the next 2
- Nevada and San Diego St loses the next 2
THEN Hawaii will play in the MWC Championship Game
.
.
.
.
An even greater miracle would be IF Hawaii wins either Colorado St or Boise St in the Championship game
THEN Hawaii would get the automatic bowl berth to the Las Vegas Bowl
BUT, they CANNOT go to the Hawaii Bowl because they will have a losing record at 6-8
Capice?

San Diego St plays Air Force and Nevada plays Fresno both tough games this week so there is a good chance they could lose and set up everything being on the line in the final week.

Microcosm of the NC era; optimism and positive vibes and gradual deterioration, lost and despair. It would be great for the team, but I doubt the planets align for NC and his Grinch persona.BigWave96744 wrote:Mathematically IF, and it's a huge IF,

If people think Chow can pull this off, going be lots of disappointed people.

There are too many anti-Chow people now (and I don't blame them) that no matter how well the team does, they still want him out. So I'm sure there are some that just want to team to tank and sink (and not think about the game or the players).808Hawaii wrote:If people think Chow can pull this off, going be lots of disappointed people.
I believe Chow (Hawaii) can win the next two games. But I don't think teams like SD and etc will suck the rest of the way to let Hawaii in.
Perhaps a different thread. Should the Hawaii Bowl be for Hawaii only? Hawaii vs ?????.
Hawaii Bowl with Texas Tech vs Nebraska (example), who cares. Will not watch at all.
Hawaii vs. anyone, would watch. The last game this year is a away game. Sometimes you can't control the schedule. Why not always have the Hawaii Bowl be the last game? It'll be non-conference. Non BCS. Just an independent event.
If we are talking about attendance and a way to send off the seniors, why not?
If Hawaii is good enough to be invited to a major bowl, sure. But still have the Hawaii Bowl too.

When Hawaii is not eligible for the Hawaii Bowl, I'd like to see a MWC team represented. This season, this year USU, AFA or Nevada vs. BYU, UCF, Cincy or ECU.
I am the one who knocks.

Being positive is challenging and maybe impossible for most , including myself, given the total annihilation of the UH FB brand. If you were a recruit, would you choose the NC Rainbow Warriors? If you would, I have some land to sell you on Kahoolawe.cabanalane wrote:There are too many anti-Chow people now (and I don't blame them) that no matter how well the team does, they still want him out. What you said is correct. But like a thread here a few weeks ago, does the UH program really attract top talents? If you are a California kid, would you choose USC (7-5) or Hawaii (JJ era 12-0)? He would choose USC.Palolo_2LA wrote:Being positive is challenging and maybe impossible for most , including myself, given the total annihilation of the UH FB brand. If you are top Hawaii kid, would you choose Stanford (other major mainland schools) or Hawaii? Mainland for sure.
Most kids, if given the chance, and another option of mainland school, would choose the mainland school.
Before this is taken out of context, we are not talking about average no-name mainland colleges, vs Hawaii.
I just think Hawaii at most get's average players in recruiting. Yes, how they turn out is another story. But to start, Hawaii will always be 2nd fiddle.
My point is, I don't think Chow's (Hawaii) record matters too much in recruiting. A lot of good guys Hawaii got no chance to recruit them. And those who did sign up with Chow, probably only have a few mid to low level options.

Re: Las Vegas Bowl Can, Hawaii Bowl No Can
This is not an example. But the guy I was thinking about is Jamal Farmer. He was hot stuff. Killing everyone and logging up yards. Then he quit the team and wanted to sign up with a mainland school. Never happened. No one was interested.
UH was Farmer's "only" and best option. If UH never gave him that chance, he wasn't going to play any football, anywhere. Farmers was "lucky" to get a scholarship from UH - and he "failed" to see that.

Re: Las Vegas Bowl Can, Hawaii Bowl No Can
I think you are over-generalizing a bit. Right now we have a tough time getting those top-10 guys because we have nothing to offer them. Back when we were winning and had a staff with heavy ties to the NFL, we at least could say that playing at UH would get them as good of, or even a better shot at getting an opportunity to make an NFL roster than they would have at some higher-profile schools. We also had the evidence to back up that claim with the number of guys getting drafted and getting free agent tryouts. Right now, all we can offer them is a chance to play in front of their families, but while losing a lot of games and for offensive players, not a lot of opportunity for stats. Not a good formula...cabanalane wrote:I just think Hawaii at most get's average players in recruiting. Yes, how they turn out is another story. But to start, Hawaii will always be 2nd fiddle.
