Sentimental and Anemic
Words to describe this Norm Chow era.
Words to also describe NC apologist. Those who have uttered any of the following:
"He needs his players."
"His offense needs better players."
"Next year will be better."
Yes, apparently we can't buy him out. Like others, I've heard it a thousand times. No, I do not have $750k to buy him out. So yes, according to the template made available by NC/UH apologist, I can't talk.
*sigh*
This error, I mean era can't end soon enough. Fire him after this game already. Let the transition begin.
Nothing personal to NC either. Nothing against "Hawaii's native son." Nothing against the wise old offensive genius who have etched his name in the ranks of college football lore. Nothing personal against you Norm. But under your watch, the UH football brand has been destroyed. I will remain Sentimental in the sense that I will always cheer for my UH warriors. No matter what. But ANEMIC, in the sense that I can't make myself expect much more from this NC driven era.

That's putting it nicely. Of course I think we all have more profaine words to describe this era.

BW, even though I paid them plenty money for my degree, I have NEVER been a Ram fan. My Rainbow/Warrior genealogy never allowed me to be a fan. Seriously. I always cheered for CU.

Re: Sentimental and Anemic
I don't think it's true that UH can't 'afford' to buy him out. UH is a billion dollar business. Oh sure, most of that comes from grants, a good portion from Government (our taxes) and still another good sizeable block comes from alumni donations.
As a general rule, today's Athletic departments aren't designed to balance or make a profit most years. And, that's exactly what has happened. The AD is given a budget and goals to make in order to achieve certain salary bonuses. These goals wouldn't be there if they were easy to achieve. He's also not expected to make all of his goals, which means bringing in a profit.
Upper campus got the Athletic Department into this mess, by capitulating in all the travel subsidy demands and in removing Hinshaw, JD, and Mack for Apple, BJ, and Chow. Time they own up for their mistakes and clean up their act.

I have been a Chow supporter. However he just doesn't have it. Between him and Woolsey they don't make good decisions. I'm no football coach but I'm surprise that they do the same thing game after game expecting better results.

My fellow Palolo boy needs to ride into the sunset already. This offense is offensive. Here is my 2 cents about this UH offense under Chow, which is the reasoning behind my support of him leaving ASAP:bigislandkurt wrote:Words to describe this Norm Chow era.

1) Consistently running 2 and 3 gap blast, dives is not effective here or anywhere outside the SEC
2) The QB play under the QB guru has been laughable and there is no apparent improvement week to week
3) Having TE, WRs and RBs run 1 - 3 yard routes packs the D in and limits your other option of running up the middle. Also, not having options on the route limits the WRs...They never work to get open after running the planned route
4) The outside WR running straight down the field limits separation if the DB knows that is the only route he needs to defend. J Rice was "slow" but DBs could not stop the quick slants, posts, skinny posts, rub routes, etc because he ran many routes and ran them well and that keep them honest
5) Rolling IW out of the pocket with a personal protector has been successful and then we don't see it for the rest of the game.
6) JI throw a hell of a ball on this week; why did other WRs ever throw the ball on trick plays instead of Joey?
7) On clear throwing downs, why no bring in a larger RB like Vele and have him block? SL cant block to save his life
Where is the experience in play calling? It has been predictable since day one and nothing changes throughout the game
Be humble and confident in yourself and all things you do.

Makes too much sense for anyone in the Athletic Department or at UH. Their heads will burst with the logic. If it no make sense and it no can work, then that's what they will do!Palolo_2LA wrote:

Re: Sentimental and Anemic
There are lots of discussion about what should have been done, what could have been done, etc, etc.
Now, it's just time for Chow to go. I'm think he WAS one of the great football (offensive) minds in college. His (past) accomplishments speaks for it self. No shame. I still think highly of him.
But it's time....to go. This is not working.

Agree...NC has had many successes and those accomplishments in college FB cannot be taken away, but they seem to have been blemished @ UH, so some shame, right?cabanalane wrote:There are lots of discussion about what should have been done, what could have been done, etc, etc.

Sometimes the biggest barrier in one's life is past success.
Re: Sentimental and Anemic
I agree. I think the main thing making them gun-shy to buy him out is the public perception caused by all the previous buyouts. that's not a smart reason to hang onto something that isn't working. I think we should sign up for at least one more bodybag game to pay for his buyout and maybe the public will be somewhat more forgiving if there are some guaranteed paychecks coming down the road.madeinhawaii wrote:I don't think it's true that UH can't 'afford' to buy him out.
What's funny is that the Michigan game in 2016 doesn't have to be a bodybag game if they are still struggling then and we manage to turn things around with another coach...

Re: Sentimental and Anemic
Because I there's nothing exciting to watch on UH Football, I was watching some videos of UH Football with Chang and Colt B at QB. Aloha Stadium was full, like every game. It wasn't even a "special" game. There were just sea of people in attendance.
The video of this season, I often wonder at first glance if the fans are stuck at the bathroom, buying food, or already left. Wait..they never showed up.
