Abandon the TE

Post by Optimus »

I've been waiting to see our TE being used as weapon but after 2 1/2 seasons they don't seem to make difference in our QBs getting sacked and have not speed or reliable hands to make the defense worry.
As some have said, having 4 receivers may be what the doctor ordered.

What about Ammon barker as a TE? He's big enough to play there...

If he we had like a Jimmy Graham-type TE, that would be awesome. Baker could be that guy.

Greg Salas kinda filled that role since he was a bigger than normal slot receiver.

he's listed at 200lbs, maybe 190lbs.....

I think he would be fast enough to create mismatches

I'm not saying this year. Just an idea for the future. And you do know what I mean when I said "Jimmy Graham-type TE" right? You don't have to him block anyone.

And yes we have other TEs on the roster, but so far they have either been hurt or not cutting it yet.

Can't have a Jimmy Graham type when no one on the roster is like him. He's bigger than anyone on the team.

I would at least like to see them mix in the 4 wr set some times to give the D a different look instead of the same thing all game long.
Didn't we run a lot of 4wr sets last year, and have pretty good success? I know we don't have the same QB, but might help who knows untill we try.

Maybe next time you should be more specific.
Baker is an average sized receiver.
You say Jimmy Graham type, people are going to think 6'7" 260lbs who can physically dominate anyone who he's matched up against.
Maybe next time you should just say you want a pass catching tight end.

You would also need a coach who could scheme for someone with natural gifts like that.
Can't say ive ever heard someone say "could you imagine what Norm Chow could do with a player like Jimmy Graham."
