Bring Back Vili
Last year there was a brief appearance by a young Warrior.
But you can't beat the original.
I would really like to see the Big Guy Back on the Sidelines!!!!!
The stadium will be rocking

At least he stirred up the crowd but how's his health? The last few times I've seen him, he moves around really slowly. Almost seems like he's hurt.BigWave96744 wrote:Last year there was a brief appearance by a young Warrior.

Re: Bring Back Vili
Vili got paid for his performances. With the budget so tight, where's the money going to come from? BTW, I neither in favor of not in favor of bringing him back. I'm just making sure everyone knows he was getting paid.

Honestly I wish they get a student that's studying Hawaiian studies at UH to be the mascot and it would be for free. Or even a
walk on player from hawaii to dress up and do it. That will be cool and awesome support.

Open position to a student then give him/her a scholie.

Well come to think of it who does it for the other schools who has mascots?? Must be students right? So why not for us or even a walk on player.

Re: Bring Back Vili
If I recall the coaches (Jones, Mack, Wilton) paid for Vili, not the university. Giving a student a scholie would come out of the schools budget.
The young warrior last year didn't do anything on the sidelines and didn't even last the season.

Where parents send their children should not affect hiring or association to UH.ABUNAI wrote:Not to sound mean.... But no.... If his kids went to UH maybe.
Dave Shoji's 2 boys chose not to play for Hawaii (Stanford)..
Also these former players still are welcomed at Manoa despite their son going elsewhere: Jesse Sapolu's son Roman (Oregon St), Leo Goeas son Colton (Kansas), Kyle Kafentsis son Austin (Wisconsin)
Should we eliminate Brian Norwood from any future coaching jobs since none of his 5 kids attended UH: Jordan (Penn St), Gabriel (George Mason bball), Levi (Baylor), Brianna (George Mason Masonette Dance Team), and Zaccariah (George Washington University)
Re: Bring Back Vili
it isn't so simple... what real Hawaiian Studies student is going to sign up to be a "mascot"? Hawaiian Studies folks are already pretty sensitive about the bastardization of the culture. I'm sure any Hawaiian Studies student who volunteered to be a mascot for the football team would be frowned upon by the department.jhb3043 wrote:now that is thinking outside the boxABUNAI wrote:Honestly I wish they get a student that's studying Hawaiian studies at UH to be the mascot and it would be for free. The reason Vili works as a mascot is because he's so obviously not Hawaiian that the cultural-sensitivity factor is less of a barrier for him. He's an ambiguous "Polynesian-style" Warrior.
Re: Bring Back Vili
Raise the game-day parking fee to $10 and use the extra $5 for "Game Day Experience Enhancement" and have the stadium pay him for his services (and pay for other things with the extra $10k a game. $5 for parking is too cheap, anyway.uhwarriors wrote:Vili got paid for his performances.
