Let us not forget - JJ wasn't pushed out - he BOLTED for bigger bucks, while at the same time understanding that the cupboard at UH was bare - no RGM, no Bess, no Colt.

Yeah, lets trade the guy with a terrible offense for the guy with a terrible offense.

Re: OMG, June Jones resigns from SMU 9/8/14
i wouldn't mind seeing JJ help consult for the program.......maybe give his input towards the spread but overall, helping woolsey with his decision making would be a big plus. with the lack of speed, maybe help the receivers with their routes. honestly any advice from another seasoned coach should be accepted, especially one that has a ton of experience in a "spread" offense.
you know how sometimes you need to take a step backwards to appreciate things, well maybe JJ needs to go back to his coaching roots and go back to just "coaching"......with all the pressure SMU must have given him the past few years, it probably got to him......if he was actually placed on the staff, it probably be a lot more relaxing for him, since he doesn't have to make all the tough decisions anymore........just coach and have fun........

WOW! I thought JJ wouldn't survive this season. It turns out he didn't even survive this DAY.
Coaches heading back for a second chance at an old job is becoming more common. Mike Riley at Oregon State, Bill Snyder at Kansas State, Bobby Petrino at Louisville.
Actually, I just learned it's so common there's a Wikipedia page about it.

Might be a little different. Mack "retired" and got a $600K buyout. If Jones "resigned" without a buyout, then he left a lot of money on the table. Had he been "released" or "fired", Jones would have had to been bought out. It will interesting to hear what the actual details are.BigWave96744 wrote:I have a feeling JJ resigned the same way Mack did

I don't think it is much of a secret that JJ got big aloha for Hawaii and the boys who lace it up for UH. With that said however, I don't think he has much aloha for UH. Didn't they sue him for like $200k?

As much as I would love to see Coach Jones back, if he truly needs a break, then let him have it. He'll resurface somewhere, meanwhile, Hawai'i needs to look for a younger and innovative coach.

That's a great idea! Kinda like when Mouse was on the team with Coach Jones.Irse wrote:I would like to see Rolo back with JJ as a consultant.

Bring back a defensive minded coach, have Coach Jones on the staff as Special Teams, like Mouse and have Rolovich as OC.

It would be foolish to sell this team short in hopes of a return of JJ. I suspect he will be back one day in some role. Right now I believe Chow can help right the ship. We are going to get some wins. Our guys and our coach are fighting for all of us.

JJ could be what we need now. A really good quarterback coach.

Agreed, as much as I would LOVE to have Coach Jones back, I feel you are right about a more younger innovative coach. Although I would love to see what Kevin Gilbride could do as a college HC.WA Warrior wrote:As much as I would love to see Coach Jones back, if he truly needs a break, then let him have it. JJ's best days were behind him (same with Chow). The magic is gone. I agree that I would like to see a young coach, and fans would perhaps better accept "the struggle."Makana wrote:Agreed, as much as I would LOVE to have Coach Jones back, I feel you are right about a more younger innovative coach. JJ coming back, if that's even a chance, would most likely struggle 2-3 years. These are not his players, or his system. Will fans call for JJ to step down?
Even if Chow did well this year, and finish his contract, then what??? Will Chow sign another contract deal or retire?
UH should have gone "young" with a Rich Miano or similar. At least UH can have a coach of the future.
