Grinch wrote:Mr.Edge808 - you're point is well taken. Assuming there's consensus that Chow should retire, then yes, there's the next question - who's offered and how do we pay for him?
Q: How do other programs pay there coaches?
Q: Does there need to be discussion with state legislature or other stakeholders about how important UH football is to them and the state?
Idk
First there should be an investigation into the firing of Greg McMackin.
All those involved in this should be banned from having anything to do with the football program.

So to give him another year (another chance) would be insane. Instead of "rebuilding" with a new head coach and new offense next year, we'd simply be putting off the inevitable - a lot of loses, deeper in the hole financially, and lose more fans and recruits.
I'd offer Coach Rolo, Norwood, or June Jones asap.
What's there to offer? Who's paying off CHOW? $$$ is the real problem. We don't have the money to fix "DA Volkswagon" when we want to pay for a Porche!
The right analogy would be: We have money to repair the old VW but not buy a new VW.

I wonder if Baylor's recruiting focus in Texas (eye-balling 90% of the roster are from Texas) would be a somewhat of a hurdle for our program starting out? Other than that, could he bring in a solid OC? I trust, what Hawkpeter says, he probably heard some good things about Norwood from players he knows there.
In contrast, Dirk Koetter has more west coast diversity (Boise, ASU, Oregon, even San Francisco State). Now he's being considered for the Raiders HC job.
Duane Akina, long time at Texas (and Arizona), now at Stanford, seems to have more of a West Coast recruiting exposure. I don't know about his potential for HC.
I don't think a major reconstruct is necessary. Chow in year 3 has gotten us back to the doorstep of respectability (all games were winnable). If the offense is not working (and fan sentiment bad), could a head coach/OC be replaced without smashing everything into pieces? Some things are outside of Chow's control (injuries, DUI), but he knows this is a business.
Once the Hawaii Bowl and MWC title is out of contention (next week), I would be willing to accept the reality of asking Chow to step down. I've been a big supporter. I hope Chow pulls through, but if he can't, we need to put the program ahead of an individual. I like optionality. That said I'm hoping for us to go undefeated the rest of the season.
Dude, wake up and smell the kaka. Chow has won three games in his last 20 games. He will not suddenly win five in a row.

That's what needs to be the measurement stick for 2014.
No, no, no... And that with a very generous Measuring stick

Touche.
Hey Wyokie! You guys want Chow? We can ship him over to Laramie and even pay his salary for the next two years ($550,000 and $200,000, Wyoming makes up the difference in the second year). No returns.
