Thanks for the report. This will be the second spring that I won't get to a practice in 25+ years.

Noticed that......senior OT David Griffin......always seems to attempt to "false crack" his fellow defensive teammate(s)......after getting spanked on clean plays in these scrimmages.

Got into it with Marcus Malepeai and Iuta Tepa on separate instances in Fall Camp last season.....and got into it with Benny yesterday.

Apparently seems to have some anger management issues.....so hopefully Chow disciplines Griffin.....since unacceptable to cheap shot your own teammate.

april 12:

full pads, offense in all white uniforms. refs on field. local high school prospects in field. lots of fans, parents in attendance.

7-7 drills: defense takes series, offense running loser lap after drills.

first set of 11-11 drills: jitters must have been given a jersey, lots of false starts. woolsey had most of the snaps, higgins next. only graham and hughes in red shirts. graham, due to his shoulder recovery. hughes, not so sure, as he is taking full right side line blocking and rushing duties on punts.

john wa'a, #51, elijah tupai, #56, and dejon allen, #66 all red shirted freshman, taking some quality snap time on o line during 11-11.

justin vele, #42, rb/te, had a nice one handed catch on a quick out. again, quarter backs not wearing red shirts. defense can rush, some will push and shove, causing quarter backs to find an open route quicker, and release the ball quicker, not necessarily assuring accuracy. might as well get used to it now, rather than wait for game time harassment.

tevita lataimua, #52 visited the offense backfield for a knockdown of a pass attempt.

jason muraoka, #26, had a nice run around the left side for a long gain. he is getting into the secondary, squirting forward from behind the larger o line.

jordan puu robinson, #85, tight end, had a nice post route td reception.

keahi hogan, #24, came away with an interception.

diocemy saint juste, hard four, #22, had a nice run inside and was gone for a td.

tui unga, hard eight, #44, is back as tight end today, blocking and running passing routes with receptions.

jeremy castro, #16, linebacker, was on the sideline, behind the plays, taking a long breather.

jamie tago, #41, linebacker, was without pads, with his left knee wrapped up.

david manoa, #96, walking around without cast or wraps, without crutches, and without knee brace. maybe some good news there.

defensive fouls: after a quick out reception for a gain, the tackle was made with a face mask penalty. after saint juste's td run, there was a defensive back ontop of a receiver throwing purposeful punches. didn't get the numbers as the team showed up to break it up.

maybe it's fatigue that's causing the defense to lose its composure. an earlier practice had phillips blowing up on a receiver after being beaten and he lashed out at the receiver's face plate. today it's a face mask tackle and then a fist fight after being blocked out on a td play.

just don't want to see defensive gaffes giving four and out offensive series new life with personal fouls.

Thanks for the practice updates ST808! Sounds like the players involved need to be disciplined/punished. Can't have any injuries to the players for stupid things like fighting.

april 14:

half pads, qbs in red shirts, ref on the field.

chris demarest watching as ruben guzman, #48, punter, getting high, long, good hang time on punts. nice to have the luxury of two punters.

special team drills included kickoffs today. demarest taking over, big time over the booming music, sharing his "love" loudly with players who were out of position, late in movement or lost on field. that special "love" and in a way that only a coach could share. kick returns are just one of five ways defenses can score. (offenses have only three ways to score.) it would be nice to see more tds by kick returns this year.

kevin clune running defense drills with the squads at full speed taking the field, lining up, plays, lining up, getting off field. they look ready for the next quick play series with the offense.

daronte' jones getting his secondary in close to receivers on line, getting their body position correct from the pre-snap, to the shuffle or back pedal, to the burst at the receiver's break. keelan ewaliko, #13 back, kept good position all the way, getting his body between the ball and receiver for a block of a sure reception. dee maggit, #23 corner, got an int and a knock down.

kurt gouveia showing his passion as he demonstrates how he wants his linebackers to explode through offensive blockers.

wayne moses working his running backs on ball control, taking whacks at them with the jousting stick, rolling them around on the field.

coach chow roaming the drill areas, for the most part letting the assistant coaches do the work. but, he is watching and not adverse to barking corrections when he feels it's needed.

a set of short, 2-5 seconds, plays at 11-11: defense getting the formation recognition, communicating drills. offense getting into correct formations. plays whistled dead after a few steps.

11-11: woolsey, #11, taking most of the snaps. defensively, marcus malepeai, #53, senior, kennedy tulimasealii, #90, sophomore, and moses samia, #91, senior, taking the snaps as #1 d line with samia at nose. iosefa, #7, was taken down in the backfield in a defensive raid. saint juste, #22, had a good catch with great yac. keith kirkwood, #89, showed great extension going up for a catch and getting good yac. graham, #8, had three completions. woolsey, #11 tossed a td to donnie king, #49, running a corner route. ammon barker, #80 hauled in a post route td.

offense looks to be learning their positions and responsibilities on called plays. defense seems to be adjusting to the faster pace of offensive play calling, and getting their formation recognition and communication together, also seemed to suffer less fatigue.

seven more practices before shutting down until summer camp.

Mahalo st808. Love it. i like that our receivers are bigger and more aggressive. They have to beat man coverage and they should be able to with their added size.

I like the fact that the team overall is more aggressive on both sides of the ball.

Obviously meant something to Agasiva......leading him to verbally commit to UH.

Hopefully Agasiva can now sway Ulu-Perry......who he was hanging around with at Junior Day.
