Three complete UH careers
December 6th, 2012
By Stephen Tsai

Defensive end Alema Tachibana and offensive lineman Hunter Hollowed will not be returning to the Warriors in 2013, UH coach Norm Chow confirmed.

Also, Jared Leaf has requested — and received — a release from his UH scholarship.

Former Hawai'i DB Ijumaa Armstrong is newest Bobcat
Submitted by Colter_Nuanez on Tue, 11/20/2012 - 14:50

By COLTER NUANEZ

It mattered not to Ijumaa Armstrong that Bozeman was frozen solid two weeks ago.

Armstrong may have been a Hawaii football player for the past year and he may hail from southern California. But what he saw on the football field at Bobcat Stadium while visiting the Gallatin Valley far outweighed the frigid single-digit temperatures.

Armstrong was on the MSU sidelines as the Bobcats drubbed Portland State 65-30 on Nov. 10.

The former Hawaii defensive back has given a verbal commitment to become part of MSU’s 2013 recruiting class. Armstrong, who prepped at Culver City High in Los Angeles, was a Hawaii redshirt during the 2011 season. He’s been released from his scholarship at Hawaii and will enroll in Bozeman for the spring semester at MSU.

Then Chow will have more scholarships to bring in more big linemen. That is where it all starts and ends. Bring in some big strong linemen that are coach able and you will be able to run any kind of offense successfully. The same thing on defense.

It is sad but when you have a new coaching staff there are usually some players that leave the program because of it. Hopefully the coaches help them find another place for them if they need the help.

Sorry to say it may not be that simple. it's not like big strong linemen grow n trees. That's why we were nitch recruiting and really searching for rough diamonds in previous years. Types from Samoa(highly competitive and over fished) and lately Aussies, (Blake Miur, jesse williams[DARN IT]), and ben dew from new zealand.
JC players are the quicker fix, but even they usually take a year to acclimate to the next level.
I do have faith, and I believe we have athletes on our lines, but the lack of numbers really hurt both for depth and providing a higher level of competition and physicality in practice. we will get more recruits that fit the system but it will take time. I was drunk on kool-aid at the beginning of the year and probably will be again next year after a long offseason drought.
But right now trying to stay grounded. I know we will be better next year, but I think that things will pick up more so in 2014 when the operations kinks is ironed out and runs smoothly.

Per-staradvertiser. Good luck to all these players that are leaving and thanks for being Warriors.
Glade to see that Coach Chow is leaving the door open for them to possibly return if they are unsuccessful in finding a new team.
Four players have requested releases from the Hawaii football team.
Defensive back Mike Sellers, linebacker Kendrick Van Ackeren, running back Jared Leaf and receiver Chinedu Amadi made their requests during exit interviews with the UH coaches this week.
If they are unsuccessful in finding another school and wish to return to UH, "they will be welcomed back" for the spring semester, UH coach Norm Chow said.

maybe i missed it - but is someone keeping tracking of all the players that are leaving and how much "room" there is on the roster? further, how does this affect APR?

really hope chow can fill the roster properly this time now that he has all the time in the world to recruit...

I don't think too of you will complain when they hear Iuta Tepa could receive Alema Tachibana's one year scholie.

Likewise deserving players like Justin Clapp, Corey Paclebar and Duke Bukoski, Jordan Pu'u Robinson, Ikaika Cavaco-Amoy, Mike Martin, Josh Donovan, Ceejay Santos, to name a few, could go on scholie.

I really wanted to see Leaf play but that's how it goes.
