Football Alumni - Murray "Whiplash" Cassidy

Post by Na Koa Mike »

Have you ever wondered where life took a player after he graduated? This is homecoming week and we embark on a journey today of trying to catch up with as many former players as we can.

Our first alumnus is Greg Johnson who was a member of the 1968 to 1970 teams which had a 22-8-1 record. A receiver, Johnson caught 22 passes for 226 yards (16.1 YPC) and 1 touchdown.

Nice story. Mahalo for sharing. I barely paid attention to football pre-70s. Around the mid-70s is when I paid closer attention.

Mahalo!

While his name is vaguely familiar, some of his teammates' names, hence the person, I remember pretty well.

Looking at that picture seems like our uniforms were gold and white.

That was an away game. Our home jerseys were green with white numbers. Those gold helmets were really nice. And we ran the pro-set offense. And back then we had about 9 home games.

We're catching up with Kelly McGill today.

McGill was an offensive lineman on the 1991 to 1994 teams. McGill was an undersized (6-1, 246) starter at right tackle on the 1992 co-WAC championship and Holiday Bowl champion team. He was an honorable mention All-WAC performer in his senior year.

One of my favorite olineman of all time. Tenacious, mean, nasty and a motor that won't quit. This is how I want our current oinemen to play.

Mahalo again.

These are great stories. A simple reminder that the UH is a higher-learning institution - these guys very successful outside the realm of football.
