Just caught up with TE Marcus Baugh. Says after his JR Day visit to #ASU, the #SunDevils "are pretty much number 1 right now."

Another SoCal Inland Empire (IE) offer from UH. Still curious as to which UH coach(es) have that connection....and what it is....to the IE....since the Warriors have made 7 outstanding scholie offers (including the 2 Latu boys).Annabel Stephan@AnnabelStephan
Great weekend for Riverside (CA) JW North TE Marcus Baugh; offered by #ASU on his way to Tempe for JR Day, offered by #Hawaii this morning.

http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/pre ... s-for-2013Su’a Cravens, LB/RB, Vista Murrieta – Cravens has been offered by virtually anyone and everyone, beginning as early as the spring of his freshman year. He began his high school career as a freshman cornerback at Temecula Valley, switched to strong safety as a sophomore at Vista Murrieta and added running back to his resume last season, while playing more of a roving outside linebacker on defense. It’s anybody’s guess where Cravens will end up playing when all is said and done, and he’s providing few clues of his preferences, but it’s all but guaranteed the 6-foot-2, 205-pounder will play wherever and anywhere he wants.
Joe Mathis, DL, Upland – The Highlanders inked four players to Pac-12 Conference scholarships this week, and Mathis is lined up to be the leader of next year’s class. Mathis averaged 6.1 tackles a game, with six sacks, two caused fumbles and two recoveries. The 6-4, 250-pounder committed to Washington midway through his junior season but look for him to keep his options open heading into his senior year. UCLA, Oregon State, Colorado and Indiana have also reportedly offered.
Marcus Baugh, TE, J.W. North – At 6-5, 225, Baugh was a handful on both sides of the ball. He caught 30 passes for 528 yards and seven touchdowns and registered seven sacks on defense. UCLA had already offered Baugh, while Michigan is showing serious interest as well. USC is also reportedly kicking the tires and Baugh has let it be known the Trojans are an early favorite.
Chris Hawkins, DB, Rancho Cucamonga – A lot of eyes will be on the Cougars secondary next season. Hawkins, a shutdown cornerback, had just two interceptions last season but turned enough heads to earn first-team All-Inland Division honors. Scouts have taken notice, as he has received offers this week alone from UCLA and Boise State. Northwestern and Washington have also come to the table with early offers.
Tahaan Goodman, DB, Rancho Cucamonga – Goodman, a 6-2, 190-pound safety, was also offered by the Bruins and Boise State this week, with San Diego Sate also joining his early list. Look for Goodman and Hawkins to possibly end up as a package deal somewhere in the Pac-12.

Re: UH offers 4* TE, Marcus Baugh a scholarship.
Makes good sense to offer these 4 star types early and pique their interests. Doesn't hurt and who knows? maybe... just maybe... one here.. one there.. 3 or 4 one year... 2 another then 3.. then 2... and in 5 years you got a high percentage starting for you...
I'm reminded of how we have many times lost our 3-5 star players to teams that made me scratch my head only because they offered far in advance of UH. Maybe the reverse will hold true? Get in early... stay in touch.. show the love.

Sun Devils lead for California tight end

Marcus Baugh has a top four, and Arizona State is sitting pretty for the Riverside (Calif.) J.W. North tight end. The Sun Devils lead for Baugh, who lists Ohio State, Washington and California as teams two through four.
The Sun Devils began recruiting Baugh shortly after Todd Graham was hired, and Baugh checked out Arizona State on a recent junior day visit.
"I loved ASU," he said. "It was a really nice place out there in Tempe. I love the coaching staff. It's like a family."
With Graham installing his "high-octane offense," Baugh said he should have a chance to see the field immediately should he commit.
"I'll be able to play early," he said, "because the tight ends they have now aren't for their offense. I like how they use the H-back."
Ohio State would use Baugh in similar fashion in Urban Meyer's new offensive scheme. Baugh has talked with Buckeyes assistants Tom Herman and Tim Hinton, and they are telling Baugh he could be the next top tight end under Meyer.
"They told me they want to use me like Aaron Hernandez," Baugh said. "They tell me I'm one of the most athletic guys they've seen for my size."
The Sun Devils and Buckeyes' spots at the top of Baugh's list are not firm, though. Baugh is high on USC, and the Trojans' staff is evaluating Baugh. Baugh spoke with the coaches last night and was told they are very interested in him.
Where would the Trojans stand if they offered?
"They'd be in my top three," he said.
Baugh said he will make a decision after his senior season.

Los Angeles All-Nike Camp team
Updated: April 3, 2012, 11:44 AM ET

NORWALK, Calif. -- Nearly 350 top prospects from California, Arizona, Nevada and beyond competed at the Los Angeles Nike Football Training Camp on Sunday at Cerritos College.
There were more than 100 prospects holding offers in attendance and there were several stellar performances, but only 24 can be named to Los Angeles All-Nike Camp team.
Note: Selections are based upon camp performance as well as past and projected on-field performance. Athletes are in the Class of 2013 unless otherwise noted.
TE: Marcus Baugh, 6-4, 229, J.W. North (Riverside, Calif.)
Breakdown: Baugh has all the makings of developing into a big-time playmaker at the next level. His combination of size and strength is very problematic for defenders.

Not a shocker. Recruiting top-tier prospects is one thing, getting a few to commit is another.

Yep.. but it doesn't hurt to ask and it puts Hawaii's name out there under these top recruits listings... I bet other players look these guys up to, just to see where they might be heading and if they see Hawaii even listed, it may give them room to pause. Got to make Hawaii a good brand name and then go out and sell it.J-Rod wrote:Not a shocker. Recruiting top-tier prospects is one thing, getting a few to commit is another.
