In the last recruiting class, 2011, I counted at least 8 players (incoming recruits) that saw extensive action in HS on both sides of the ball. Leaf is one of them. He was star on offense and defense--LB and RB. He can run, catch, and tackle. The direction that UH recruiting is taking, namely recruiting versatile football players, dual players, stars that played on both sides of the ball, impresses me. It's brilliant. Boise does this.

The value of recruits that can play on both sides of the ball (that are speedsters)brings a lot of flexibility to the team's needs (i.e., strong candidates for special teams, and fills depth charts at whatever position that helps the team the most). I looked at the first video and even though Leaf is groomed at RB at UH he looks like he's a natural at LB, too. The way Leaf catches the ball as a RB out of the backfield, he looks like he could be a good candidate at slot, also.

Leaf's resume is impressive, both athletically and scholastically. UH is fortunate to have him. If the Navy coach wanted Leaf then I feel that says even more about his abilty on the field, classroom and as a person.

When I first saw his highlights, I thought I was watching Manti Te`o (similar uniform color, #5). He looked real good at LB. I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to switch since only 1 RB gets to play at a time unless Rolo adds some new wrinkles. He may be one of those who get on the field sooner on special teams due to his speed and seemingly innate ability to locate and tackle ball carriers.

BTW, when I saw that his stepfather is Erin Hall, I knew he had a Hawaii tie. Forgot that Erin was a Crusader QB until I read the bio prepared by BigWave.

Great to have Jared as a Warrior.

This boy had quite possibly the most amazing highlight tape of any incoming UH signee that I have ever seen. To me, this guy was one of the jewels of the incoming class. I kinda wanted him to play LB though! I'm just happy he is with us. He's gonna be a star for us in the years to come. Wishing him much good learning and good health.

I am amazed that we have so many 6'+ 200lb+ running backs that have so much eligibility.

I like how he runs with a low center of gravity. No arm tackling this guy. And his blocking alone should move him up the depth chart. I have very high hopes for this young man. I am happy that he chose to play for us. :hello1: :hello1: :hello1: :hello1: :hello1: :hello1: :hello1: :hello1: :hello1: :hello1:
