Alex Green @ the East-West Shrine Game Practices

Post by SmugDude »

Just a quote from ESPN's practice reports:

Aloha, Alex Green
Hawaii RB Alex Green is undersized, but we like his quick feet. He has a great short-area burst and gets through the line of scrimmage quickly and runs downhill immediately. He's also catching the ball well. Green is pretty good in space and could be a change of pace back. He's having a good day so far.

Green is 6'2" 230. If that is undersized then what is average size?
Not doubting, not hating, not loving, just hoping because I am a fan.

While he's probably closer to 6'0" tall (instead of 6'2" height listed on UH roster), interesting to note that AG is being described as "undersized" being that he weighs a solid 220 lbs.

Interesting comment to say the least. A lot of the top RBs in the NFL are under 5-11 and most don't reach past 220lbs. Guys like Peterson, Foster, S. Jackson, Stewart, Mendenhall, McFadden, etc. are all in the same height and weight area Alex Green is in. There are a few elite RBs way smaller than Alex.

Jamaal Charles - 5-11, 199lbs
Chris Johnson - 5-10, 191lbs
Maurice Jones-Drew - 5-7, 208lbs
Ray Rice - 5-8, 210lbs
LeSean McCoy - 5-8, 207 lbs

I think when they say undersized its relative. The guys you listed above are smaller, but they are a lot faster.

That said, Green was probably initially being looked at as a BIG back - someone like Mike Tolbert or Shonn Green. And in those comparisons he's a little on the smaller size as Tolbert is like 240 and Green I think is 6'3 - 230 or so.

then that means green is just as heavy as shonn green and is taller, as shonn green is 5'11.
When in doubt, burn it down.

LOL I've always wondered how much height plays into speed......if at all.

If Green can clock a 4.5 40 at 6 feet 219lbs, he'll be drafted very late to undrafted. 4.4......looking at 5th-6th round. 4.3? Thats 1st round crap. Ingram and Leshoure are the only RBs expected to be 1st rounders this year.

Didn't Tsai say that Green was our best chance of getting a player drafted this year?

I didn't realize that Tsai was a qualified NFL scout.

Update on Green from ESPN.
West: Hawaii RB Alex Green
Green showed good burst and quickness, and his ability to get to and through the hole is exceptional. He showed his versatility by doing a good job of running routes out of the backfield, creating separation and catching the ball well. He's a one-cut-and-get-vertical runner and will be a good change-of-pace back at the next level.

he's at least as qualified as any scout who praised jamarcus russell. or alex smith. or pretty much anyone who's QB'd for the bay area teams in the past few years.

Or Jimmy Clausen. While telling everyone that guys like Josh Freeman won't make it. So much for that...

Scouts are now hyping up Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert as a Top 10 pick. I'm sorry, but that kid is mediocre at best. 2011 presents a super weak class for QBs.
