Former NFL Star Kurt Gouveia and other NFL Players to Headline Invitation-only Football University in Honolulu
Camp to Showcase The Island’s Top High School & Youth Prospects
WHARTON, NJ (November 10, 2009) – Former NFL star, two-time Super Bowl winner and Hawaii’s own Kurt Gouveia, along with a staff of former NFL players and coaches, will be in Honolulu this January to run Football University (FBU), an invitation-only training camp for high school and youth football players. Utilizing a network of scouts and regional directors, FBU will personally handpick the region’s top 200 players to attend the camp, including many top-rated high school prospects from Hawaii. The camp takes place from Friday, January 22 to Sunday, January 24 in Honolulu.
Players who believe they are of the elite level can also nominate themselves for consideration for an invitation to FBU’s elite training experiencing at FootballUniversity.org
“No event is bigger than Football University,” said Rivals.com national recruiting analyst Jeremy Crabtree.
Many top players over the years have trained under NFL supervision at FBU, including the likes of U.S. Army All-Americans Terrelle Pryor (starting quarterback at Ohio State), Bryce Brown (Tennessee), Je’Ron Stokes (Michigan), Cierre Wood (Notre Dame) and Randall Carroll (UCLA). This year, FBU trained the nation’s consensus top prospect, Seantrel Henderson, as well as Lache Seastrunk, Ronald Powell, Quinton Spain, Robert Crisp, J.R. Ferguson, Silas Redd, Khairi Fortt and Sharrif Floyd—all of which were among the top 50 recruits in the nation.
FBU was developed by Sportslink, the creators of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and the Hawaii-Mainland Bowl in addition to the Youth All-American Bowl. Two players from Hawaii—Solomon Koehler and Joseph Faifili have played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. This past January, Hawaii’s Reeve Koehler.

ABOUT FBU
Football University (FBU) is an invitation-only experience for the serious football player, focusing on teaching technique and skill in a small-group setting with other elite athletes. Recruiting and exposure is a key part of FBU, with prominent coverage on Rivals.com and player information from FBU being utilized as part of the Forbes Report, which is mailed out to over 400 coaches.
FBU provides three days of instruction and advanced technology training from the NFL’s top instructors, including Glenn Smith (former NFL quarterback and Tony Romo tutor); Tom Martinez (Tom Brady’s personal instructor/tutor); Andre Rison (former All-Pro wide receiver and Super Bowl winner with over 10,000 receiving yards); John Fontes (former NFL coach); Chris Slade (former All-Pro and Patriots’ legend); and others.
FBU gives players access to tools usually reserved for professionals, including: coaching from an elite group of NFL instructors; high-tech, cutting-edge training equipment; video/film breakdown; position-specific strength training; speed and agility training; and guest speakers. Just an FYI, this year's Island Sports Media's Athlete of the Year Awards is sponsored by Football University. For the High School category will be awarding scholarships to the Hawaii camp for the winner...that's if the winner is a football player.

While it will bring a lot of attention to Hawaii.. will it also mean that a lot of prospective recruits will be wooed away? I wonder if any of those that attend will end up at UH?
