John Timu must the the player that Coach Mack was referring to when he told Rich Miano on the radio that he had found a safety for him. Coach Lumpkin had taken Coach Mack into Los Angeles to visit Long Beach Poly and other schools in the area during the bye week after the New Mexico State game. Miano was subbing for Coach Mack on the Call the Coach Show when Coach Mack called in. He told Miano that "we found a safety for you".

Punahou OT #76 Anthony "Kaiwi" Crabb was listed as a junior on the State tourney roster.

Haven't seen the Waialua boys play in game situations, but have seen them both up close in person at last summer combines. Both good size & athletic looking. Let's see how that translates to the football field next summer.

According to Doris, Coach Mack has already offered Class of 2010 scholies to Micah & Graham in addition to VJ & Taz.

Sure...my thought is, only V.J. is in the ESPN 150. Why sell yourself short. Top ten should be All American/ Under Armor players. Nah just joking. I know you trying to keep it real. Those would all be great gets for next year. Good luck and keep pressing to Coach Mack and Staff.

With the hire of Coach Tormey and Coach Shaw, I expect this list of prospects will grow quickly. I am excited to see who these coach's will bring to the table and possibly to the team. More connections and highly respected and experienced coaches may lure in some blue chipper's (crossing fingers). Way to go Coach Mack!!! I can't wait to see the result's of next year's recruiting effort. :wav:

ROMAN SAPOLU Image C, 6-2, 250 lbs.
(Edison HS - Huntington Beach, CA)
(Offered Scholarship)
(Committed to Oregon State)

Sapolu discusses his commitment

Eric Machado
BeaverBlitz.com

In sports, there are bloodlines and then there are BLOODLINES. And Roman Sapolu, the 6'2", 250 lb offensive lineman out of Huntington Beach (CA) Edison definitely has the all caps version of the word.

Roman Sapolu is the first 2010 commitment for Oregon State
His dad, Jesse Sapolu, was an ironman in the NFL, spending his whole career with the San Francisco 49ers. He played in 182 games from 1983 to 1997, starting 154 games. In addition, the elder Sapolu collected 4 Super Bowl rings.

And now Roman is looking to carry on the torch of the family name in football. Last week he received his first college offer from Oregon State. Less than 12 hours later, he made a verbal commitment to become a Beaver.

"I was recruited by O-line coach Mike Cavanaugh," said Sapolu. "I'm real excited to learn from him."

Sapolu, who played right tackle last year, is moving to center on his high school team this year. He says that he'll likely end up at "either center or guard" at the next level.

And he's already preparing for next season. While he used to play volleyball, he stopped to focus strictly on football. His offseason workout program consists of lifting and running. In addition, he gets some extra special attention from a two time NFL pro-bowler.

"I go to a local community college everyday after school and work on techniques with my Dad," said Sapolu.

Even with the commitment, other schools are still after him. His Dad's alma mater, Hawaii, stepped into the ring earlier this week with an offer. ASU, UCLA, Colorado, UNLV and Washington State are other schools that have shown interest.

Sapolu will be headed to the Nike Camp at USC next month, where he is sure to attract even more attention.

While solidly committed to Oregon State, Sapolu is keeping his options open.

"I'll take different visits and look at my opportunities," said Sapolu of the interest.

One visit that is definitely on the agenda is a trip to Oregon State. Sapolu has yet to visit the Beaver campus, but has plans to do so during Mike Riley's annual football summer camp.

"I'm looking forward to coming up and visiting in June," said Sapolu.

Once in college, Sapolu plans to major in either Business or Finance.

"I'm good with numbers," said Sapolu.

Numbers and bloodlines...sounds like a good combination for a future college lineman.

kapakahi wrote:My Long Beach friends tell me that Clay (#4) was the fastest WR and the deep threat for LB Poly last season, but didn't start (but did play some) the last 2 games (CIF-SS Pac-5 championship game against Tesoro; and CIF Open championship game against Sacramento Grant) because of a foot injury.

Apparently Clay is in the mold of former LB Poly receivers Travon Patterson (with USC), Terrence Austin (with UCLA) and Desean Jackson (formerly with Cal Bears; now with Philadelphia Eagles)....smaller, quick & speedy...with good hands.

As for other potential SB prospects in So Cal in the Class of 2010....my Long Beach friends mentioned to me that fellow LB Poly RB/SB Cory Westbrook http://hscalifornia.scout.com/a.z?s=153 ... id=3383754 would make an awesome SB for UH. Also, one of my other South Bay friends mentioned to me that Crenshaw HS (alma mater for Abe & Solly Elimimian) has a small quick slot receiver in Geno (sp?) Hall.
In addition to Clay and Westbrook, my Long Beach friends buddies tell me that the top OL prospect on Long Beach Poly next season is OG Ryan Edwards (#52)...big, athletic, mobile, and nasty. http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiti ... ason%3d201
Don't let the name fool you 'cuz he's at least part Samoan...and might have relatives in Hawaii. I'm hoping that UH starts taking an early look at offering Ryan Edwards....since Roman Sapolu (from nearby Huntington Beach Edison) has already been offered.

sounds like a prospect. thanks for all the recruiting news/articles. really hope we can land clay. probably a long shot, but i think the coaches should offer him asap. watched some of his highlights, he's a legit D-1 (pac10) prospect.
