OSU waits for word from coveted recruits By Kerry Eggers
The Portland Tribune, Feb 1, 2010
Oregon State may have to wait until Wednesday's national letter-of-intent signing day to find out whether it will land several coveted recruits.
Among them are David Douglas High defensive end Owa Odighizuwa, linebackers Shaydon Akuna of Kapolei, Hawaii, and Soma Vainuku of Eureka, Calif., defensive tackle Kirifi Taula of Anaheim and tight end Christian Thomas of Palmdale, Calif.
Akuna may be down to between Oregon State and Florida State, but OSU coaches feel good about their chances.
Good part is that there are 12 players from Hawaii ranked....BUT the Bad part is that only 1 (David Lefotu) committed to UH thus far. VJ could make it 2 commits to UH. Schwenke & Ioane longshots at best.

As for the 6-foot-1, 210-pound Sierra, choosing Hawaii was a life-long goal.
"Hawaii looked at me and my friend Joshua Quezada. I always wanted to go there," Sierra said. "He got an offer, so I was going to try real hard (to also get an offer)."
Sierra's father, Felix, recalled his son had been infatuated with Hawaii for some time. "He came back after a 2003 Pop Warner Tournament and told me he wanted to go there," Felix Sierra said. "I just remember thinking `Oh sure."'
Dominick Sierra was a play-making safety who finished with 61 tackles and three interceptions.
Have all these guys made it? Funny to see how some are huge contributers already (Tuilau) and some I forgot about completely cause I haven't heard their names once since signing day.
