Of course he would say he makes 800,000. If you read my post, I said he makes 800,000 a year and the state pays him 400,000. We, as the state, can't assume that we'll be able to go out on the market and get another coach for the 800,000 June Jones is currently making. If we go shopping for another coach, we'll be working with the 400,000 that we are currently spending. There's no garuntee that the donators will pony up the other 400,000.

Yeah, so June Jones is making $800,000 and putting it in his pocket. Does it matter who pays your paycheck? Would you care if it came from the state, private donors, or where the money came from? No, all that matters is that you get PAID!

Not debating how much he's getting paid, but how much we're able to pay another coach if June Jones would leave.

My point is that Hawaii shoudn't waste "big money" on any coach b/c you could be Bill Parcells, but if you don't have the players and no resources and money like Hawaii then you can't compete w/"big-time" programs. So why not just pay a coach an average WAC salary and be average. Unless you address the problems in the atheletic dept. like lack of financial support and give the coach the resources he needs to build a big-time program.

So if JJ leaves it'll be better b/c Hawaii will just be what it's atheletic budget can afford, just average instead overpaying a man who loses to DI-AA teams and gets blown out on the road anyways. In defense, of JJ Hawaii doesn't have the resources and financial backing to allow JJ to compete w/ big-time schools and attract the elite players. So LOSE MONEY!

then let june jones go to the SEC.
he'd get his okole kicked week in and week out with his offense and no D approach. and he may not have coach Cav to bail him out with a terrific line.
van appen's team got their butts kicked in Wyoming one year, but never got whooped by 60+ points on consecutive road games.

You're thinking of the 66-0 wipeout at War Memorial in Laramie in 1996. Wyoming fans still talk about that win. Prior to the Fresno State loss this year, that loss was the worse in Hawaii history.
