What ever happen to the fumble recovery rule.
What ever happen to the fumble recovery rule.
Watching the Colorado State/Wyoming game, CSU running back fumbled the ball at about the one yard line and another CSU player recovered it in the end zone for a TD. Did the NCAA change the rule again! I thought if a player fumbles the ball, only he is allowed to advance the ball forward when recovering it. Any other player recovering the ball was suppose to bring the ball back at the point of the fumble. What's up with that!
I remember a year or two ago that they enforced the "Dave Casper rule". I remember a play or two that the refs placed the ball where it was fumbled when another player recovered it.H20 wrote:huh? Lots of fumbles are picked up and advanced, either way.
They must have changed it this year, based on the Brewster fumble in the end zone and recovered by Moenoa.

I don't think you can fumble it in the endzone, if you did then it was a touchdown. heheH20 wrote:Moenoa didnt advance it though, it was fumbled into the endzone and he jumped on it.

I bet the refs would change the call if they looked at the tape. Well, if the looked at the tape in the privacy of their own homes. For now, I guess they don't want to admit they were wrong. I wonder what would of happened if he didn't recover.
I found the ruling of a fumble being recovered by a teammate.H20 wrote:huh? Lots of fumbles are picked up and advanced, either way.
If a player fumbles, a teammate can recover or pick it up and run with the ball forward if it's not on a 4th down play. If that play was on 4th down, and a teammate recovers or pick it up and run with the ball, that play will be declared dead and the ball will be placed where the fumble occured. (Rule exemption: Rule 8-3-2-d-5)
I knew I've seen that scenario happened before. I guess it was on a 4th down play. But, other than that, a teammate can recover at the spot of the recovery or pick it up and run with the ball.
