From what I saw of Jackson Rees is poised. He came out and gave up three straight singles to start the game but never looked unsure, looked composed and confident. Sure enough he got out of the first inning without much damage with a double play and two runs given up. He has a good move to first for a big man and right hander. Hawaii hitters came up battling bringing in 5 runs in the first inning. Inspiring that the kids are battling. It sure looks like Murray needs a larger catcher's mitt but I suppose he's trying to get the ball out fast but it looks like about 2 inches too small. I have no clue why they are hitting and running Yamazaki unless they are straight steals. Its a rally killer to have him taken off the base paths four times.

What can be more exciting than a walk off homerun in the third game of the Seton Hall series by Johnny Weeks. The Bows just battle in every game and they were never out of any game except the last game with LSU. But you kind of had a feeling that they could come back on that one as well.

Hawaii goes into UC Irvine with no wins and six losses against the anteaters and what do they do, WIN! Logan Pouelsen deserves the biggest kudos with three innings of 9 up 9 down pitching and 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and one triple. This was his game but no denying the rest of the team battled. Nobody has the big numbers but this team is a winner.

What I like about this game is they did not push up the score but they did not let up either. They didn't start striking out or popping up or grounding out but they hit the ball good even after the 8-1 lead. Who would have thought that Uskali put out the best pitching performance out of the three starters? Winner. Johnny Weeks is looking solid in the lineup let alone everybody who started and battled.

Sort of upset with the UOP game because they did not play small ball early. They had the option to move the runner up in innings 1 and 2 and they chose to hit away which probably helped swing the momentum to Pacific. If they are going to play to lose, why play?

Poor coaching by the Bows as evidenced in the 5th inning with UCD. Rios singles, no outs, no bunt call and Ka'au flies out. Ramirez singles and Rios gets to third. Pop up by Murray and Ramirez gets caught in a run down and Rios is not sent home before the Ramirez gets tagged out. Rios should have been sent home before Ramirez got tagged out in the run down and instead he was standing at third on the run down.

Even with the mental errors in the 5th, Hawaii looked good with Rees holding them with 3 runs and Dylan Thomas lights out for the Bows win. Johnny Weeks again comes through with the insurance run add one run with a two out single. Hawaii battles again.

The Bows fielding up the middle was better than UC Davis which is what made the difference. Fielding errors by the shortstop and 2nd baseman for UC Davis caused for a big inning whereas the Bows were solid up the middle. You gotta feel good about Johnny Weeks who sacrifices the runner over in the first inning but yet comes back with three hits. And you gotta feel that Hawaii's got a true closer with Dylan Thomas.

The Bows got blown out at Davis due to lack of interest. Kekai Rios did not run hard on a misjudged infield fly which he could have turned into a double on the missed infield fly and Ka'au did the same thing by not running out an infield fly. I would have rather have seen a lefty to lefty match up rather than have seen lack of hustle on the part of the right handed hitters.

Cal State Fullerton used to be the most redneck school in California but don't know if its like that anymore. Good reason for Hawaii to go into the series with a chip on their shoulder. Derek Tatsuno was pitching and Ron Nomura was catching in a game in '79 with all the redneck frat boys came out to yell racists slurs against the Hawaii baseball team that could be heard on their small field. Kevin Costner is a big supporter of the CSUF baseball team and belonged to a frat and doesn't really dance with wolves. Unfortunately, Howard Dashefsky was part of the team but only shugged his shoulders when asked what a white guy was doing on the Hawaii team. CSUF is in Orange County which does not support the homeless and wants them out of the County. If there's any reason to be against CSUF, this should be impetus.

Hawaii has 1st batter getting on base, Johnny Weeks leads the NCAA in sacrifices (which is a big deal since the SF Giants can't move their runners up), but there is no contact guy to bring the run in. Gotta give it to Weeks for driving in runs like he has been, yet being able to move the runner up. This is so important for a team that does not have a .300 hitter.

Once again, it shows that Hawaii is outcoached by CSUF. Most if not all of the CSUF batters can push the runners up with a bunt. Man on first in the fourth and no out, no bunt is attempted and batter strikes out. CSUF is consistent with their bunting. Tyler always has a passed ball per game.

So disappointed to hear Uskali and Demeiro are hurt. Maybe Paulsen too. Pitchers need to step up. Tough last weekend for Smith to only have 10 minutes to get ready. Yelland was entertaining and gave up only 1 run. Offence needs to get some runs. Defence needs to limit errors. Time to get hot and start a winning streak.
Go Bows!
