Manoa Magic 2016

Post by GoBows2014 »

Basebows: Santa Clara Broncos @Murakami

At Murakami stadium, the table was set for Les,
and the Basebows won a thriller, come from
behind, bottom of the ninth win.

Santa Clara, with one run in the 2nd inning and
one more in the 3rd, had led most of the game
2-0 until the Basebows scratched one run across
in the 6th. Alex Hatch on the hill for UH, not as
dominating as the full game win by Von Ruden
the night before, but pitching well through seven
until Cody Culp came in for two very capable
innings. Cody pitched through some serious jams
with few outs and men on but escaped both
innings with no runs scoring with him on the hill.

But for UH in the later innings, we were behind by
just one run, and 'tho we were putting men on
nearly every inning could not bring them home,
and went into the bottom of the 9th still down 2-1.

In the bottom of the ninth, Bows get a couple of
men on base, but then an out, and a second out,
and we are down to our last batter, Alan Baldwin.

[Alan was a starter most of last season and this year,
but with our original catcher Chayce Ka'aua back
in the lineup as a DH after recovering from a broken
finger on a slide into 2nd in one of the first games
of the season, Alan is battling Alex Fitchett and more
very good players for that last starting spot and was
on the bench for the last couple game watching Alex]

Alan was not having his best night either, essentially
on "tryouts" again for the starting position in right,
was 0-3 plus dropped a fly ball in right field that
arguably was catchable.

So local boy out of Kailua to the plate, but gets in a
hole early with two quick strikes. The stadium was
abuzz with the two men on, but after the outs and
now the quick strikes on Alan, nervous anticipation
had the whole stadium on edge. Alan looks at a ball
then fouls one away?, and maybe another pitch, and
then it happens. He connects for a hit to centerfield,
so with runners at the corners, we instantly tie the
game. But what happened next was Manoa Magic,
with a single to center you will rarely score a runner
from first, but the centerfielder tried to scoop the
ball with the glove and missed...he left the ball on
the ground and had to go back to grab it. Runner
coming from first got the green light from coach
Rusty at 3rd and came to home for the go ahead
run and Alan Baldwin the game winning hero !!

Entire stadium was going crazy and even for jaded
veterans this was still something special. OC16 was
not there tonight, so if you weren't at Murakami?
You missed a thriller and a come-from-behind win.

Manoa Magic? Of course, where else but @Murakami!

Go Bows !
