Basebows 2015: Game 4 OR@UH: We Got Robbed!

Post by GoBows2014 »

Perfect afternoon for baseball, clear and sunny on President's Day.

Bows won this game fair and square, but a blown call by the home plate
umpire cost us the game in the 9th. Seems like everyone in the stadium
saw it that play *except* the home plate ump, shame the blue crew did
not huddle up to discuss after.

Josh Pigg, pitching for UH, with the ball in his glove, tagged out the
Duck's runner about 4' from home plate. Clearly tagged him out.

Inexplicably, the home plate ump calls him safe.

Long story short, that cost UH the game. Trap argued intensely, to
no avail. Entire stands were so adamant about the call the Sherriff's
dept practically had to bring in the "witness protection" crew to
escort said blue out of the stadium. <g>

It really was great game, Bows are looking good on offense and D,
new pitcher on the hill today Kyle Von Ruden a welcome addition to
the rotation. Bows won it and deserved the win, history will show it
as a loss to Oregon

Such a shame.

Go Bows !

lol I've seen your other threads and this whole time, I thought your post was just one long poem about what happened in the game. Now I'm disappointed that they actually aren't.

But yeah, we got robbed. Oh well. Things are looking up.

Yup, things *are* looking up, Neighbor !
just for the record, this post is NO BACHI !

Thursday evening, Feb 19th at Murakami
Another beautiful evening for baseball,
slight onshore breeze, not a drop of rain.

Second of five game series against that
New York team Hoftstra. Really good game
tonight, great baseball. Great offense,
and spectacular defense for both teams,
really fun to watch. Not on OC16 tonite
but it should have been <hint>.

Basebows defense was just spectacular
tonight. One inning, three consecutive
long balls, to center, to left, to right,
all run down for long outs to the oohs
and ahhs of the crowd.

Chayce Ka'aua as our catcher just stellar
again. Gunned down more runners trying
to steal 2nd tonite, and courtesy of the
onshore breeze, caught a couple popups
behind home that would have been in the
fence with the usual tradewinds.

Jacob Sheldon-Collins might turn out to
be the defensive player of the year in
the Big West if he keeps this crazy
action up at "shortstop". Shortstop is
in quotes because he catches everything
hit to the left of the mound, including
tonight a sensational sliding catch of
a fly out next to the visitor fence,
holding the ball up as he finished
sliding so the blue crew and everyone
knew it was out.

But then, oh no, he didn't get up! Trap
jogged out there quickly, blue crew was
there, he was ok, just shaken up. But
he has been amazingly over the top on
defense in every game, just hope that
abundance of enthusiasm does not get
him hurt.

Scoring for the ball game was pretty
much all Eric Ramirez. It was bottom of
the first when he broke it open for a
four run inning, and he continued to
hit most of the night. Hofstra got on
the board with a couple in the 5th or
6th, Bows answered with an insurance
run, and that was pretty much the game.

Eric "El Toro" Ramirez might be the most
fun to watch develop, he already has
a great glove and has proved it with
tags on runners saving wild throws
and ranging deep and wide of 1st to
pull in what should-have-been-hits
into outs, but it watching his hitting
coming in so early in the season? That
is really exciting. Remember, he was
in high school last year, and already
this year against Oregon and now with
Hoftstra is proving he has a bat that
can outshine his glove, and that is
saying something.

He has the physique and composure of
a pro ball player already, so hope UH
can keep him all four years without
him yielding to what will guaranteed
be a low round draft pick in two yrs.

Oh, and "No Bachi" ?

Yeah, that is Japanese/Local for bad
luck. Like a jinx or hex. Careful of
what you say or do. Like opening new
topics for each new UH game. So this
is a hidden footnote. Bows won, btw,
and for this team? Might be the fuse
they lit tonight that burns brightly
for many games from now on.

ps: And Neighbor? Tks
for letting me ride on ur reply, i would never
want to bachi this team even by accident :)

Go Bows !
