Basebows 2015: Game 2, We *Had* 'em !!

Post by GoBows2014 »

OR@UH, 2nd of 4 game series, Saturday 2/14/2015

It poured rain from 5am to noon at the stadium but
amazingly the skies cleared and game was held in
perfect weather, a bit overcast and cool, but not
a drop of rain during the entire game and the field
was in perfect shape.

No errors, some small ball scoring, and best game
of the last several seasons. Heartbreaker for the
'Bows since they lost, and hopes were high after
getting a 2-0 lead and holding it for many innings.

Quentin Torres-Costa started for UH on the hill,
and looked great. Tended to get lazy and spread
too many pitches out of the strike zone but got
out of inning after inning, many of them with
Ducks at 1st and 2nd, but no harm no foul. He
has more velocity than ever, easily +2mph on
his heat.

Andrew Jones #21 came into the game 7th inning and
looked good at first then got into trouble, same
as Quentin, letting Ducks onto 1st and 2nd before
getting out of the jam in the 7th. In the 8th, not
so lucky, with a man on served up a homerun that
changed the 2-1 score to a 3-2 score with Ducks up.

That deflated the entire stadium, but Bows came
back. Solid D got us through the rest of the 8th and
9th, but bottom of the 9th it was still 3-2 Oregon.

Crazily, improbably, UH started getting more hits!
Put a man on, put 2 men on, finally loading the
bases! This is bottom of the ninth, one out, in a
3-2 ball game!

Yeah, the crowd was into it. Going nuts actually,
this was a come-from-behind win if there ever was
one. Sadly it was not meant to be. The collective
emotion in our house got to share first hand an end-
of-game-with-bases-loaded heartbreak that *hurt*
But we played them up and up the whole way, so
now Oregon knows, and everyone, we got game!

Yeah, that last crack of the bat sure looked like a
game winning hit, but just a long out and barely
let the Ducks out of Murakami with a win. Both of
the teams know this game was up for grabs until
the very last out, and that is some great baseball.

Go Bows!
