Basebows 2015: Alumni Pau. OR Next Up

Post by GoBows2014 »

Highlights of the alumni game on the eve of
a four-game series with oregon...you prolly
saw the stats, basically a 10-zip blowout
that started early and never let up. Yeah,
Ka'eo took Harry deep over the right field
wall, not sure if Harry served him up (pals?)
...or Harry was trying to blow it by Ka'eo,
i'd love to hear *both* sides of that story!

Good defense by the alumni, and maybe slightly
casual baserunning by the new basebows, two
outs on the basepaths that shouldn't have been.
first a great throw by Conner George from right
cutting of a runner trying to stretch it to 3rd.
He threw that thing on a rope from deep right &
it was in the glove when the runner was still 2
steps short of the bag. Later, another good throw
from Conner, relayed home for an out at the plate.

Treat of the night was Scott Kuzminsky on the hill,
came into the game in the middle innings and got
roughed up in his first inning, yielding back-to-back
hits and a couple of runs. Got serious in the next
inning, striking out the first two 'Bows with great
pitches, the 3rd out was a harmless pop out for a
quick inning. He got four quick K's in about 2 1/3
innings, wished we could have seen some more
"Kuz", he was looking good after he got warmed up.

After last year when we got hurt on the hill (losing
some of our best arms to injuries) coach loaded up
big-time on pitchers. We should not lack righties or
lefties anytime this season. New 1B Eric Ramirez
looks solid on D and at the plate, hard to believe
he is just out of HS! New SS Jacob Sheldon-Collins
has quick reflexes so not much will get by him, only
3rd base might be up for grabs, Stephen Ventimilia a
solid glove and bat returning at 2nd so tight infield.

Pitching this year will be our success or demise. On
the hill for the alumni game, Tyler Brashears (a JC
college xfr from MX Saddleback CA) threw strong for
many innings. So did #37 Eric Gleese in relief. Can't
wait to see Quintin Torres-Costa again and hope
Lawrence Chew is 100%. Some Q's? Where was
Marcus Doi ? (Probably our strongest bat), hope
nothing serious kept him out of the game lineup.

For the series against Oregon? Most Ducks are young
this year, despite their National #15 rankings, hope
the basebows can take 2 or 3, we'll see with our new
pitchers against some solid D1 hitters Friday night!

Go Bows!
