Maqill shoudl have been a 2nd Team AA, BWC lone returning AA

Honorable Mention All-American Middle Blocker:

Maqill 2.68 Kills/Set; .405 Hitting %; 1.34 Blocks/Set

Maqill’s stats versus 1st Team AAs:

Kills/Set and Blocks/Set was better than 1st Team Grant.
Kills/Set was better than 1st Team Ogbogu; and tied Ogbogu with 1.34 Blocks/Set
Blocks/Set was better than 1st Team Ajanaku.

Maqill’s stats versus 2nd Team AAs:

Overall Kills/Set, Hitting %, and Blocks/Set was better than Bell’s stats.
Lutz had more blocks/set, but McGill had better Kills/Set and Hitting % stats.
Alhassen had better Hitting %, but McGill had better Kills/Set and blocks/Set.

Maqill’s stats versus 3rd Team AAs:

Over-all Kills/Set, Hitting % and Blocks/Set was better than Tapp’s stats.
Maqill’s Kills/Set and Hitting % was better than McCage, and Sybeldon.
Only Browning had more Kills/Set and Blocks/Set than McGill.

First Team All-American Middle Blocker’s Stats:

Ajanaku (Stanford) 3.48 Kills/Set; .428 Hitting %; 1.14 Blocks/Set
Holman (LSU) 3.94 Kills/Set; .383 Hitting %; 1.47 Blocks/Set
Ogbogu (Texas) 2.09 Kills/Set; .420 Hitting %; 1.34 Blocks/Set
Grant (Penn State) 2.30 Kills/Set; .429 Hitting %; 1.13 Blocks/Set

Second Team All-American Middle Blocker’s Stats:

Lutz (Stanford) 2.53 Kills/Set; .383 Hitting %; 1.47 Blocks/Set
Alhassen (Florida) 2.66 Kills/Set; .458 Hitting %; 1.32 Blocks/Set
Bell (Texas) 2.34 Kills/Set; .287 Hitting %; 0.99 Blocks/Set

Third Team All-American Middle Blocker’s Stats:

Browning (Creighton) 3.15 Kills/Set; .339 Hitting %; 1.41 Blocks/Set
McCage (Texas) 1.51 Kills/Set; .337 Hitting %; 1.38 Blocks/Set
Tapp (Minnesota) 1.60 Kills/Set; .242 Hitting %; 1.26 Blocks/Set
Sybeldon (Washington) 1.76 Kills/Set; .392 Hitting %; 1.55 Blocks/Set

Bottom line, Wahine Volleyball's SID should have done a better job promoting McGill.

The Wahine will enter the 2015 season for the 2nd year in-a-row without a returning 1st, 2nd or 3rd team AVCA All-American.

That 2011 and 2012 Recruting Class has been the reason for Hawaii's lack of All-Americans and not making it out of the 2nd round in 2013 and 2014.

Coach Shoji missed big time by not offering Carly Kan (two-time honorable mention AVCA All-American and Adora Anae (1st team PAC 12 all-freshmen team) early when they were both Juniors in high school.

Croson and Kan definitely would've made the Wahine a better team in 2013.

Croson, Kan, and Anae most definitely would've made the Wahine a better team in this past (2014) season.

I assume that Olivia was not on the radar screen for honors at the beginning of the season, so that could be a reason. She is on the radar screen now, and will get noticed and followed by the east coast voters.

Except for Reed Sunahara, not exactly the “Who’s Who” of D1 Women’s Volleyball.

The selections were made by the AVCA Division I All-America Committee: Chair: Sherry Dunbar, Indiana University; East Region: Mike Johnson, Xavier University; East Coast Region: Dennis Hohenshelt, University of Virginia; Midwest Region: Melissa Stokes, Missouri State University; North Region: Cathy George, Michigan State University; Northeast Region: Reed Sunahara, University at Buffalo; Pacific North Region: Shawn Garus, Boise State University; Pacific South Region: Liz Kritza, University of Colorado; South Region: Matt Peck, Middle Tennessee State University; Southeast Region: Scott Swanson, University of South Carolina; Southwest Region: Santiago Restrepo, University of Oklahoma.

Bottom line, I stand by my “Wahine Volleyball's SID should have done a better job promoting McGill”.

It starts with BWC’s POW honors. Even with deserving POW STATS, Magill’s name was rarely submitted for POW honors. LOL…if you can’t make it a few times as BWC POW then making 1st team BWC means nothing to the above AVCA Division 1 All-America Committee members.

Past Wahine’ AAs dominated conference POW and POY awards. It starts with dominating STATS and then sending that STATS out.

Magill had dominating STATS, but nada WORD was put out in her behalf to a clueless Selection Committee.
