Magill for BWC POW and the Wahine' over-all efficiency at...

Post by seasider »

At UC Irvine and UC Fullerton

Magill should be Hawaii’s nominee for BWC POW for her overall efficiency at Irvine and Fullerton.

Blocking continue to be the most consistent weapon for the Wahine.

Redundant, but Manu-Olevau and Higgins need to continue serving heat, but be more consistent. Team’s service errors were 19 with Manu-Olevau and Higgins accounting for 10. Versus Irvine the Wahine had too many back-to-back serving errors.

Great move by coach Shoji for switching Kahakai to Libero. No pun intended to Mendoza, but Kahakai is a quick-twitch athlete who can adjust quicker to the ball, i.e. dinks, roll-shots, etc.

Coach Shoji should discontinue that 6-2 with Koelsch/Passi for Higgins/Taylor. At this point of the season, Taylor is not close to peaking when terminating; but, she’s probably the best blocking BWC’s
outside, and Higgins the best BWC’s blocking setter.

Overall hitting by Hawaii’s outsides was woeful. Taylor, Manu-Olevao, and Greeley need to attack with a wider array of shots, and make those wide-open shots count.

At UC Irvine

KEYS for 5 set win: 1) Kahakai at Libero from the 3rd set on; 3) Over-all team blocking and Manu-Olevau’s 2BS; 4) Manu-Olevao hitting smarter from the 3rd set on with a wider array of shots, i.e. dinks, angles, tooling the blocks; 5) A total of 13 service errors, but improved serving from the 3rd set on.

Not a factor: 6-2 with Koelsch/Passi for Higgins/Taylor.

Kahakai 2SE <1.0> Points, 3Set/A, 13digs
Mendoza 2SE 1RE <3.0> Points, 2Set/A, 20digs

At Cal State Fullerton

Keys: 1) Dominant blocking by Taylor, Magill, and Adlopho; 2) Only 6 serving errors and 1 receive error for the match; 3) Kahakai’s quickness covering roll-shots; 4) Higgins efficient connection with Magill (.727%) and Adolpho (.600%), and her 4 kills kept the Fullerton’s MB from releasing early to the outside, resulting in open opportunities for Hawaii’s pin hitters.

Woeful: Except for Greeley’s respectable .227%, Taylor and Manu-Olevao was anemic terminating at .143%, and .087% respectively.
